Hey guys, New here!
did some research and i somewhat know what to expect already on my trip to CR!
I cannot wait to go see the beautiful country and tour around see the volcanoes, monkeys, waterfalls, and Tica's of course! :P
I will be heading down with a friend from NY.
any advice on some cheap hotels or hostels to stay at that will be close to all the action?
MP during the day, definitely also wanna check out the HDR and SL and some of the nightclubs in town, can't forget the amazing restaurants there, Costa Rican's know how to eat good food!!!
any tips would be appreciated! thanks a lot

Congrats on the upcoming trip! You'll have a good time I am sure but keep doing the research.

On hotels, one of the less expensive 'monger' hotels is The Freebird. http://www.thefreebirdcr.com/
Another is Nuevo Johnson with their Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/pages/HOTEL-NU ... 1837328424

There are a number of hostels in the downtown area but none will be 'guest friendly' so unless you don't want to bring any independents back or are willing to use 1-hour hotel rooms (Hotel Asia), I'd stay away from those. However, to answer the question in case that is the plan, I'd recommend the Backpacker's Hostel downtown. Here is a website with several hostel options: http://www.hostelworld.com/findabed.php ... 7AodjFcALw

On food, Costa Rica can be hit or miss but a good rule of thumb is avoid the beef unless you are at a specialty restaurant where they import beef. Cafe Mundo, Soda Peru and La Esquina de Buenus Aries are my recommendations but many others in the restaurant section of CRT.

Hope that helps and hope you have a GREAT trip!

Had a brain fart and didn't include the Castillo Hotel in my recommendations for inexpensive monger hotels in my previous post. Probably one of the best options as it is right around the corner from SL. http://www.hotelcastillo.biz/
