hi guys,ive checked previous threads and most non spanish speakers have asked about learning the language whilst they are in CR, i am thinking about a basic spanish course in the uk.would the language in CR be that different from the european spanish i will learn.thanks in advance for any help.

I personally used the Rosetta Stone Latin America version. It is available through bit torrents and laid the foundation for me. I would not say I am fluent but I certainly know a lot of words and phrases.

I would only recommend the ROsetta Stone if you basically have near to zero spanish lessons. You may find it slow otherwise.

I am currently listening to Pimsleur on my phone all day. It will help with the reaction time a lot. The pimsleur is more the european spanish, but still effective.

IMO it is better then nothing either way you go.

An instructor from Badajoz province will probably have an accent closely resembling that of a Latin American, but the accent (and vernacular)varies by country on this side of the pond as well. Just do your best not to pick up that silly accent most Spaniards have..jejejeje. Suerte mae.

Any basic Spanish course is a great idea, and I would not sweat the small stuff; for example, Castillian Spanish (w/ the lisp - is not spoken in latin America - for that matter its not spoken in all of Spain) - the direct answer to your question is, just as British English is different than American, in most cases you can be well understood by speakers with either accent. The more you know, the more you will tend to enjoy your visit

Now, speaking of language.....I have a trivia question for you - What British Prime Minister's first/primary language was not English?

I don't remember his name but I think he spoke Welsh. Alot softer on these green ears.

duolingo.com is how I learned how to pick up some basic stuff. It's free and is pretty fun to use. I've been lazy recently and haven't done it, but you learn a lot in a short amount of time.
