I'm staying in SJO. Is the water safe to drink? Ice cubes? Fruit & Veggies?

The tap water is safe in San Jose, as is the ice. I do better with bottled water because I seem to have a delicate stomach. I get sick in Mexico even if I don't drink the tap water, but that's Mexico.

I've spent almost a year there from living there to random visits, and Ive drunk the water all over the country. I never had the slightest trouble. San Jose is probably safer than low lying coastal areas.

There is no problem with water in San Jose. Acueductos y Alcantarillados does a good job with water (Acueductos) :) not so much with sewage (Alcantarillados)

Very good topic started here. I mostly drink bottled water in SJO (I was told from another CRT Member that Alpina is safer than Cristal) the last 3 years and am in town about 6x a year. I frequent a lot of restaurants and never had any problems from the ice cubes or the water there.

By boil and then filter, do you mean pouring the water that was boiled thru a screen or such?

Let me approach it this way---what have you consumed in CR that made you ill, if anything?

Imperial. I love it but it gives this gringo beer drinker a hangover, always. Still drink when I'm there which shows what a dope I am.

Leadbonanza:

Yes good points. Regarding the BPH toxins in some water bottle plastics there is a certain number to look for on the bottle to see if it is a safe plastic. Anyone know what number that is?

Tatiana, at HLH, was spraying her milk around the HLH bar one night. She was using both pezonas at the same time. I still remember CrazyHorse cleaning his glasses after being targeted along with several others, including me.

Has anybody been with her lately? Is she still able?

Let me offer a (semi) serious reply to an often asked question - yes, the water is safe to drink, and the food is safe to eat. ID is spot on :)

The problems you can encounter with food is if its improperly prepared, or the food handler has not properly washed his/her hands - can happen; a couple of time to me in Mexico, and I would have gladly choose death over how I felt - but not in Costa Rica.

Still, wash off any fruits you may buy on the street before eating - but I can honestly say from many trips I have never experienced a problem.

Also....avoid raw milk from the TICAS (jesus christ.....kill me    )

I've had that happen a couple of times, usually at HLH. It doesn't gross me out but it doesn't turn me on either. It might mean that her pu*ssy is a bit stretched recently.
