Im heading in to SJ as a newbie and staying at Amistad. Any disadvantes to this as my headquarters. Just plan to walk to and from SL, DR, HLH. Like the neutrality of the location. Any thoughts? |

All are within walking distance, but I would recommend taking a cab after dark. Cab rides between any of those places should never be over 4 bucks. |

the disadvantage is the train and matt. jk ![]() ![]() you can see SL from the front door and i never take the cab for this walk. the others i also suggest a cab at night. if you wait on that corner by amistad the taxis are way cheaper than grabbing them in front of SL btw. |

Here's why: 1) Close enough to the SL / HDR I can go whenever I want, yet removed enough I can easily get away for quiet time whenever I want 2) Non-pro chicas who balk at being seen in SL have no problem coming to visit at HLA 3) Nice ambiance for meetings with local business associates 4) Suites have in-room saunas and full sized jacuzzis 5) Breakfast is included in the room price, and it's pretty good 6) Free laundry and free phone calls to the US 7) The staff always takes good care of me Disadvantages: 1) The train - depending on which room you're in, it can be damn loud or just an annoyance 2) No chicas on premises, although personally I count this as an advantage 3) Many non-mongers stay there, including the occasional gringa eco-tourist 4) Matt (just kidding ![]() mh |

How much are the suites there? Hell, I live around the corner but might book one one of these weekends just for the sauna and the jacuzzi. |

Take your earplugs, and make sure they're good ones. |

You must have been next door to my room, and the screaming and moaning, and not all of it was me. ![]() I have yet to find a hotel in the Gulch that also is chica friendly that isn't noisy to some degree. Although I may try the Sleep Inn someday when I win the lottery (chica fees $35). |

Redwarrior wrote: are the trains all day/night for just a couple trains here and there? they run regularly thru early evening-this last trip I never heard 1 while sleeping, the crossing guards have stymied the whistles from 6am-10am. But when you're sittin on the front porch they'll stop your conversation |

Studios with jacuzzi, no sauna - $99 / night Suites with jacuzzi + sauna range from $119 to $139 per night. Check with the hotel for latest prices - CRT cardholders get 15% discounts. mh |

Boogy wrote: Any major difference in king vs queen room besides cost...is king more modern/updated? King rooms are larger than queen rooms - the queens can be a little claustrophobic, especially since most don't have exterior windows. mh |

Boogy wrote: Any major difference in king vs queen room besides cost...is king more modern/updated? Yes, there is is a difference in that the "king" rooms are larger....some much more so than others...... Queen rooms have their own sets of differences: a couple have NO A/C. several have NO WINDOWS TO THE OUTSIDE AIR nonetheless.....you simply cannot go wrong at La Amistad. Once you're there.....walk about the hotel...peek into other rooms.....SCOUT...and find rooms you like: all for future trips......make nice with housekeeping staff and front desk staff......see what it will net you......(all good....). the deal with the Amistad is the spang on service; the friendliness; the laid back atmoshphere.....and the "....the shelter from the storm....." because there ain't no working girls buggin' you and the place is well run.....well run......great place to set up HQ and go about unspoken about sins of carnal knowledge elsewhere....bring back all the tarts you desire....no charge......far more "mature" environment at La Amistad.....and if you have the $$ to pay for the suites....do so.....compare them to Bill's joint at the SL......SL got some fine places......but in my circles we got us a saying...."We like to COUNT.....not SPEND....". Happy hunting and happy trails...... ![]() |
