What are the key phrases I need to know in Spanish to negotiate with a tica when she doesn't speak much English? I want to agree with her on all the key things like bbj, showering together, what time she leaves, etc. What other things have you agreed to upfront with a chica?

There's a thread in the Newbie's section with a long list of phrases you can use to negotiate with ticas, nicas, dominicanas, colombianas (if you can find one these days), panameñas, hondureñas, cubanas, venezolanas, and even the occasional brasilera. I'll see if I can find it for you.

If you dont speak or understand Spanish, how are you going to understand their response?

Invest some effort. With 15 hours you can learn enough to communicate on a basic level with pimsluer or learn Spanish like Crazy. This will improve your experiences.

A good start might be to not use the word "Tica" to denote prostitute - it just means female Costa Rican - not a genaric term for whore - consider this lesson one!

Also look at the thread listed; it will give you some good pointers :)

Amen to that! The funny thing is is that a Costa Rican prostitute is also a Tica.

Of what my chip on the shoulder friend - stupidity :?: ignorance :!: - well, we agree :) :P :)

Other than gross ignorance, I've given reasons for responding as I do to the mis use of this word - because - while you seem not to like my posts (ignoring the fact correcting the mis use of the word "tica" is a very small percentage; vast percentage are about sharing info and experience gained over 15 years of traveling to Costa Rica) - I'm not gonna stop correcting those who mis use this word. Because I happen to like the handle you have chosen (seriously - I always smile when I see it :)) I'll list a few of the reasons - again:

I have had Ticos tell me using tica to describe whores in general is like a white person in the USA using the "N" word to mean black people

Americans have gotten in trouble - in tico bars - posted on CRT in fact - over the wrong use of the word (so it could prevent a fight)

Yes, they do take it that seriously so.......

Regardless of the "me centric" mind set that seems to dominate so many ("hell, podner, I spent $65 on the room and that much on beer - so the contribution to the economy I'm making lets me do and say whatever I want to - b/c with out me this country is in trouble"     ) we are guests in someone elses country - and maybe should try to keep that point in mind and avoid giving offense when it can so easily be avoided

Preventable stupidity - since I got out out of 8th grade, I stoped thinking that being purposely dumb was funny - why be stupid when you don't have to - I''m pointing out - in a manner I think is a little humorous - the mis use of the word. Once someone knows, and chooses to mis use the word, I really don't care (I chose not to be stupid if I can help it; realize others have a different view)

Holy crap Scuba1, de masiado.

Take a pill, get a blow job, rub one out.....do something.

Reset you sarcasm meters please. We get it, Tica does not mean whore. A thousand pardons if I have offended the great master Obi Wan Scuba1.

As a token of my remorse, I'll pay for a hour with the Tica of your choice at HLH on my next trip.

I honestly appologise if I over reacted to a little humor and ball breaking :)

(I always say if you are going to dish it out, you need to be able to take it, too)

I really it was nice of you to apologize. I think anyone should have basic spanish when talking to someone. Using hand gestures can help too. Best solution here champix online.
