I am planning my first CR trip and will go to Del Ray. What are the going rates for good chicas there?

The price depends on how much game you have, your interviewing skills and patience.
The Del Rey is a Shark Tank and you are the bait. I suggest learning your skills at the Sportsman's
Lodge and then try the Del Rey. You will be lucky to feel good about your experiences with Del Rey
chicas about 30% of the time. Sportsman's chicas I will say about 80% are good performers or at least
you feel that you have not been ripped off. Play it cool with money figure they will normally suggest a price
then come back with at least $20 to $40 less . $60 to $70 with propina or taxi for good performance
will get you about 95% of the chicas. Do not be shy about turning one down if she will not come off cien.
She may eventually a few minutes later when she thinks about it. Hell I have found Chicas on calle 6
that performed better ,nicer and great looking for $14.

What he said, especially price/performance. But let's get real: here nobody wants to feel ripped off and "game" counts for a bit but near-about the worst you could experience here (and after all, you consulted us--a big step up) would be a satisfactory+ performance with a willing woman at about 1/2 the price of a good dinner in the US. The big bonus--go to any of the Gringo places, step right up to any group of Gringos you see, put pride aside and say, "Gents, I'm new--what's up?" CRT Brothers in general and innkeepers in particular put SERVICE in the service professions.
BOTTOM LINE: Who's trip is it anyway? We live, we learn and no harm done/no tales told.

Just like in the U.S. in real estate it is a serious buyer's market. The chicas are starving for business right now, keep that in mind and you will do alright, but then again, some of them are so stupid, they rather go home with $0 and starve then to except $60 and pay some pills and eat. The nature of the culture.

Yes, but I decided last minute to go next weekend and Sportsman's Lodge is booked. Del Ray they told me that I can even walk in without reservation and they will most likely have a room.
Any other good ideas for last minute hotel booking?

Lots, but for a 1st trip, you could do worse - plus even though I don't like the place, suggest that the HDR is worth it for the experience - once

You could try the Hotel Little Havana, the Dunn Inn, La Amestead, or even the Hotel Morazon (a block away from the HDR)

The reference to the Sportsman's is they have working girls there - you don't need to be a guest to go in; great bar. A little less hard core - for the most part vs the HDR.

Your issue with the Del Ray will be - and not every girl there- is that the place attracts the hardest of the hard core (along with some first timers) - if you are new, shy, have a more "retiring" personality, you will be as others have posted, bleeding, surrounded by sharks - offer $60 (b/c she will strart at $100 - trust me) and settle on $80 - more principal vs anything else - if she will not budge off $100, she does not want to be with you - lots of other options (and if you have to pay the dredded "cien" look to negociate more time, other things - or say screw it and go on to the next one; of Phuck it, pay it, just don't make it a habit - she will not Phuck you any better at $100 vs $80 - or $60 - you just don't want to be a tool - if you are getting the impression I really don't like the pond you are fishing in, you would be correct - but it does serve a purpose).

There are numerous Massage Parlors - if you become a paid VIP member of CRT (a great idea, BTW - it will save you lots of $$) you get a discount at some - Hotel Little Havana, Relax are just 2 great ones - you pay a fixed price - lower than $50 - and you don't have to do any negociations - worth a check out.

I am not concerned with sharks - although new to CR, I have lots of experience in many places such as Tijuana and Germany FKK and there are lots of sharks there. I am a bit concerned with safety in Del Ray - I don't want my valuables or laptop stolen, and whether it will be noisy in the room - I am quite sensitive to noice. Are any of these (Hotel Little Havana, the Dunn Inn, La Amestead, or even the Hotel Morazon) better from that perspective? And what is the difference of being guest vs. non-being guest at HLH or HDR in terms of getting girls there? As far as I know even as guest to HDR I would need to pay for brining girls to the room? Basically I want to visit 2-3 places, not only pick up girls at HDR, or wherever I will be staying.

Noise levels and noise tolerance is a subjective thing. I find all of those too noisy for me, but I am noise intolerant to the max. Where I lay my head in the states you could hear a pin drop and that is hard to get away from. Alot of people can sleep right thru what you will encounter. I can't. That's why I pay to stay at Sleep Inn, 3rd floor south, quiet.

The rest of your questions I'll leave to somebody else to answer, I don't play the gulch game anymore, or rarely I should say, and only with girls I've known for years, so my info would not be current intel.

I think the newbie-ness of this question is great... from the thread title saying "Ray" instead of REY, to and even more misleading topic like the phrase "going rate"...

Aside from that, I would never stay there for a hotel stay...but always worth a stroll through...

It's not the "going" I'm worried about... but the "coming"."

None of the hotels mentioned have a "safety" issue - use common sense; lock up valuables and money - although I'm a sound sleeper, downtown San Jose is noisy - between car alarms blasting and loud motorcycles, its just not a quiet place....anywhere, although some properties are worse than others Morazon is loud, and La Amestead has a train in the AM - the double pained window seems unknown in SJ

If you are staying at HLH, I don't believe you pay a guest fee for outside talent (you also get a break on the in house girls - if you are going to stay there, join CRT as a VIP/paid member - the discounts on girls, rooms make it a no brainer) - you pay a small (although annoying) fee -- it was $10; could be a little more - at the Hotel DelRey to bring a girl to your room, but you don't pay a fee like in Asis (barfine) to take a girl out.

You may have experience elsewhere, and some of that will translate to Costa Rica - but its impossible to do enough reading, and while there is a lot of BS on the board, its an invaluable resource - make sure you read - if you have not already done so - Oranges tips for newbi's (in the Newbi section - its a stickey so its easy to find) :)

8ball the Del Rey is full of Sharks, only the Guy's that live in C.R. can pull a consistently good chica out of the place because they already have had experiences with most of the sharks. I have sat at the Bar with Dave a friend that lives in C.R. and he can point out at least fifty not to pick. A new person is likely to get really screwed. These bitches are professionals at lying an ect... , many are clockwatchers and many try to change the deal. Yes I have met some good ones there but there are a hell of a lot of bad ones. If I am not
mistaken you live In Costa Rica, so you get a lot of intel on these chicas.

Tinman, Pops is still alive and well, just in the US getting surgery done right. Last time I spoke to him, he plans to return to Costa Rica.
