For the more seasoned CR travelers what would you have done differently your first trip or two now that you know what you know? I've been reading pages of trip reports and have learned from others experiences so it's been great so far in adjusting my plans for my first trip. |

The guys that start today with the internet have it made. It's all but laid out for you on a map and often it is laid out on a map (as in the map here). Opinions vary so you will have to do it yourself and decide. Costa Rica is like fishing in a barrel with a dip net. The most important thing that will make any trip to a foreign country more enjoyable is to learn as much of the local language as you can. |

I think I would bale out of a lot of the bad picks rather than following through. Spend more time with the good ones and less time with the bad ones.... |

Very, very true - also, 15 years ago, CRT was not available - so much info with just a few clicks today vs trial and error then - the trick is to still wade through the opinions - and yes, the bull shit - and find your own comfort level - just because there is a lot of information easily available does not make it good information ![]() What would I tell someone today: Read, ask questions, not just CRT but other boards as well although this is the best by far for CR - far better to do some research and ask a question based on vs just "How much do I have to pay to Phuck at the Del Rey" - No "oranges Tip's for Newbi's" 15 years ago Language is important but lets face it, few are going to take the time or put forth the effort - so at least learn a few phrases, smile, ect - Be polite - its becoming a lost art in the USA, but Costa Ricans put a great store by it Get out some and see the country (yeah, I know - believe me - but most are of an age they can't Phuck 6 a day ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Break out of the HDR/KL - visit some MP's, I don't just mean HLH and New Fantasy (although HLH is superb) Realize that HDR attracts some beautiful girls but also the hardest of the hard core Exception of fixed price MP's, NEGOCIATE - even if you are a tool, if she says $100, you should be able to get her for $80 (or lower) - she will not Phuck you any better for $100, but she may respect you more (plus you paid for your dinner and then some with the savings) Develop a "black book" - not, not refering to hot Dominicanas ![]() ![]() ![]() Negociate everything you expect to do in the bedroom before you leave the bar - regardless, if the secession goes south for any reason, send her packing (with a small amount if you are in bed naked; with just cab fare otherwise) - always another option I probably could go on and on but you are receiving good advice here from the other guys too - while I would not "overthink and overplan" the more you know (even in a place like Costa Rica where much is spoon fed) the better your trip. I would take a tour; this ramps up your knowledge - for some god forbid you mention Bilko or BangBang57 but both offer tours and are available via PM. |

Great feedback. Much appreciated! I'll make sure and ask questions as they come up. I realize some questions are often recycled and will use the search feature to minimize these. |

If you plan to visit CR with any sort of regularity, you should also be cognizant of your reputation, how your viewed (esp by chicas)..come off as a guy who wants to have a good time and less (dare I say) mongerish.. If you act like a guy who needs to travel there to have sex, ur gonna get treated that way... Cujo |

If I knew then what I know now I would not have gotten involved with a hooker for more than the original hour bargained for initially. That one hour turned in to 6 years of mostly hell on earth! No real name anymore, no real address and for GOD SAKE never leave anything around which identifies where you live or work. Trust me ![]() dapanz1 |
