Hi, I will be arriving in SJ late morning on May 11th. Plan to take the bus from the airport to the the city. Can someone tell me the best way to get to HLH? Take the bus to the Parque de la Merced end stop and take a taxi from there? Get off at one of the Paseo Colon stops and taxi/walk(one rolling suitcase) from there? Thanks, Aldrich317 |

Take the bus to the end. If you get off at anywhere on Paseo Colon it is to far to walk to HLH and any taxi you take is going to go the same route as the bus and go right by the end stop of the bus. Why pay any additional taxi fare buy getting off the bus early? |

Aldrich…… Walk down the sidewalk at the airport to the street in front of the airport. You'll see a Bus Stop at the curb directly in front of the airport. Take the red TUASA BUS that will have a "SAN JOSE" sign in the front window near the door to get on the bus. Ask the driver "Directo San Jose?" If he nods "YES", get on. Give the driver a 1 Mill note. He'll give you change. The fare, one way, into town is about 75 cents US. Stay on the bus 'till the last stop. It is at the TUASA bus terminal on Ave 2, between Calle 12 and call 14. There are a zillion taxis parked at the curb waiting for customers if you want a taxi. From that bus terminal, I hoof-it to HLH with a duffle bag. The walk on Ave 2 or Ave Central to HLH takes me about 15-20 minutes, and I'm am old guy. If you need to see the street layout, print-out a CRT Monger Map from this board to keep in your pocket before you go. RAC |

Good advice all ![]() The reason you want to ask the bus driver "Directo a San Jose" is that some bus' stop first in Alaljuala - not the end of the world but you want directo. Also - at the terminal, at the end of the ride - simply hail a taxi if you wish - going to the Hotel Morazon, with the taxi and bus fare, all in its less than $3 - with due respect to my friend RAC, unless you want to walk (I love to but not with a suitcase given the "sidewalks" in SJ ![]() ![]() More guys should consider the bus - its a great option (plus its easy and fast) and if you consider that you could save more than $20 - well, that savings bought you 2 lunches or a dinner - the other option I've used late at night is to share a cab - its ideal w/ 3 guys - and you don't all have to be going to the same hotel, just downtown. |

My 2 colones worth on the Directo issue is that I'd rather sit on a bus that will take an extra 10 minutes than stand around waiting for the next Directo. Each to his own, though! |

If you do walk don't step in any puddles of water...I stepped in one that was waist deep....everyone around was laughing...wasn't very funny at the time... but when my wingman reminds me about it now kinda makes me laugh... beware you were warned |

The Directo bus seems to come to the airport about every 15 minutes during the daytime. The bus stop is usually semi-crowded. I feel safe there in the daytime. RAC |

The ONLY reason I take a taxi or Interbus from the airport even during the day is because I am carrying at least $1000 in cash and a laptop and phone and passport. $25 to get to the hotel and safe is worth the peace of mind to me. After that walking around with only a little cash in my pocket is fine with me. In my mind "tourist" always equates to "target" for the locals. |
