Post subject: | First Trip Agenda and Recommendations |
Will be making my first trip to CR in mid July. Am an avid fishermen from Louisiana and would like to take a couple of 1/2 day light tackle inshore fishing trips amid my mongering activities. Accustomed to catching specs, reds, drum, etc. in the Gulf of Mexico waters and would like to get out and catch comparable species. Any advice and recommendations regarding fishing options (and otherwise) are appreciated. Cheers! Bourbon |

I think that if you want to fish it is going to entail an overnight Travel in the AM ... then fish .. sleep over... fish some more and return to San Jose I am not a big fishing guy but had a great time hitting rooster fish inshore on light takel Done the offshore billfishing before... much more fun inshore I did my trip in late September... not sure what will be striking when you want to fish.. many guys here know that better than me You can do a half day... A bad day fishing beats any day at work ![]() Most Hotels will help you set up a trip... so do not commit untill you get to Costa Rica |

I think Nhhank laid out the perfect schedule for ya. I'm not a big fisherman either but love the inshore too on the few times I've been able to go. Always liked fishing for food. Never had interest in going out for photo fish all that much. Although, like ya say, there is no bad fishing. ![]() |

Bourbon The fishing both inshore and offshore can be very good depending on the conditions like anywhere else. Personally, the offshore game has been off and declining for several years now due to heavy long lining of the sails and marlin so I would recommend inshore fishing for Roosterfish or Jigging deep for bottom fish (Groupers etc). I've caught the biggest fish of my career 78lbs out of Los Suenos. It can be very pricy if you are not splitting it with friends, or have deep pockets. In that case I would grab a smaller boat off the beach next to the marriott (Gato) is decent '25 old mako anyhoo, the inshore is very reliable IF the water clarity is decent ie it has not rained a ton in the days before you get down. Catching a 78 roosterfish on light tackle is almost as exciting as going to HDR with a G in your pocket so I would do both if you can. Feel free to PM me for more details on fishing, that I'm a pro at, only been to the gulch twice, jaco (suenos) is my usual stomping grounds. |
