Post subject:  Moving to CR for a while

Well, After living in thailand for 7 years it's time for a change. Got a mate of mine already living in CR and he's convinced me to give it a go. He's only been down there a few months so I imagine he's not an expert.

Looking for a bit of basic advice about house rentals, women and Internet. (not necessarily in that order  )

He's recommending a small furnished house about an hour away from San Jose for about $400 a month. Does that sound decent?

About internet, how is the international speeds in CR? in Thailand they suck! Also in Thailand they censor a lot of sites. Do they do that in CR?

And finally how are the ladies (non bar girls) are they snooty or nice? I do know some Spanish, just enough to get slapped I think, hehe. going to be working on that before I arrive.

That's a lot to ask about I know, But would vastly appreciate any help guys.

Thanks a lot

Greg

Solid though a bit open-ended questions. Consider reading through the Trip Reports and Info from Around the World Forum, finding some guys with experience in both Thailand and Costa Rica, then getting in touch with them directly--there's a ton of such Brothers and we're real helpful on this site.

Yep, thanks for the advice. I did read through as many posts as I could before I asked. But didn't see any real references to those questions.

Though I am very interested in the mongering down there I was actually more interested in those practical matters first.

Is there a forum for CR that deals more with the everyday stuff?

There may be are better sites than these--they are just the top of the stack when I queried Google:

http://www.therealcostarica.com/living_ ... tment.html

And not so BTW--consider looking into/joining ARCR. They have a 2-day seminar every month designed to acclimate folks to CR and can otherwise be helpful: http://www.arcr.net/

You should be able to get a small furnished place an hour outside San Jose for the price you were quoted. Will most likely be in a Tico area so you will need some Spanish. Closer in to San Jose the prices will rise considerably and you will find more gringos reducing your need for Spanish

Internet is not censored. Upload speed is available from 1 to 10MB (advertised not always actual) at varying price levels from about $20.00 per month to over $100.00. Internet connections have become much more reliable than in the past and rarely, at least where I live, go down.

Girls, cannot be easily lumped into a single grouping. That being said P4P is readily available. Non working girls would require some Spanish skills and some, dare I say, game.
