Will be visiting SJO for the first time later this month and I was hoping to take advantage of Pops' Wingman Tour. He hasn't responded to my email inquiry and I have since seen mention that he may be recovering from an accident, which would likely explain it!

So, what would you CRT veterans recommend to a low-key monger looking to get the "lay of the land" ?

That is correct, Pops had a very serious accident in November. He is still recuperating.

Go to the SL and belly up to the bar and order a beer. Hang for a little while and get a vibe from the people sitting around you. You might have to move spots a couple of times but you will surely run into somebody that will answer questions and point you in the right direction. :D

Never booked a wingman tour myself. I would say in less than a hour or two of hanging at HLH or SL you can easily find someone with good info that is willing to make rounds to a few places with you. Never came across a guy down there that was not friendly and willing to share stories about the girls just simply by saying hello and introducing yourself.

Send a PM to member "BangBang57". He may be interested.
Sorry to hear that Pops is still not up and about.

Post your dates in roll call and meet up with other members.

Yes, this is the main way I have met CRT members and post a thread that you have arrived to let them know you need a guide. As they say in Zen, "Where there is a student, a teacher will appear."

Hey! that's my line.

They are right. Look, listen and learn.
No sense in repeating the bone headed mistakes we have all made.
I would not worry, you will still make some anyway. Just relax.

Just remember the young bull and the old bull.

Young bull looks into the valley and says to the old
bull let's run down and get them. The old bull says lets walk
down and get them all.

Have fun. I am at 38 days and counting for another fun trip.

Like you I sent an email to Pop's before my trip, later learning that he was recuperating from an accident (hope he's doing okay).

After about two days I had pretty good lay of the land. SJ has a really quick learning curve. Plus, all the info on this site is extremely helpfull. Like others said, you're going to find some really great people down there who are more than willing to show you the ropes.

The method that worked for me was not to be attached to any preconceived notions, go with the flow. If you're friendly and open to it, the party will find you.

And take a taxi after dark. I was skeptical at first, but then someone told me it was "the cheapest insurance policy against unfortunate events you can buy."

Sounded like sound advice to me.

Good luck, you'll have a blast!

Agreed. All of the brothers on this board are cool like that. My first day (solo), I walked down the street and met an expat at the old new york bar. The guy walked me around and showed me idem, relax, hlh, new fantasy, and sportsmen's, and he didn't ask me for a dime. There was no way I wasn't paying the bar tab after that education though....

Thanks for the sage advice!

I'm not the most outgoing person and I'm not looking for a party, but I get the impression that the brotherhood is nothing if not diverse! With a little help from those with their fingers on the mongering pulse of San Jose I will likely be able to find the kind of assistance I need to help me avoid wasting time and/or money, and it would appear that SL and HLH are the best starting points.

As suggested, I will post my dates in the Roll Call section and take it from there.

PM CRT member Bilko - lives in San Jose, does tours, and is very knowledgeable - does not post much but is an excellent choice to get the lay of the land.

You could also PM Bangbang57

Problem with just meeting a random guy is that while they may mean well, they may not have the knowledge you are seeking - the guys I mentioned do; you will see all the MP's as well as get a perspective from guys who know the deal.
