I know there was an informative though not enormously encouraging thread on PR not that long ago, try search "Puerto Rico".

Start by spelling it correctly.....Jesus

In the spirit of the season, let me see if I can share some info - been there 4 or 5 times - Gotta agree with the consensus so far - I would not go for the purposes you mentioned - 30 years ago, sure - but not now. If you are going down for business, worth a look see - but to go with "that" specific purpose in mind.....my advice is don't.

Given the choice, if you want the Carib., look into the Dominican Republic - also some action on St Martin (Dutch side - Saint Maartin) and Aruba. DR and Aruba have the edge - but Costa Rica is better.

To the two gents above, I am considering buying there, getting tired of the two airplane 8 hour haul to CR after many many years, can get a 5 hour non-stop from my city to SanJuan. Been checking it out, not the mongering issues, looking at lifestyle issues, found a couple of BB's I monitor, getting a little flavor of there being a little anti-gringo sentiment (obviously more than what I expected to be the norm) especially in San Juan, like getting your DL, paying bills, at the banks, walking down the street in residential SJ getting snide comments, these were some of the things I read. I don't plan on being in SanJuan much, looking at beach towns. But, did you feel any of this beyond the norm?

I have been there many times (not to monger) and what you say about the anti-gringo bias is very true. Frankly, I don't care for the people there (generally speaking) compared to CR and other tropical locations. Bad vibes.

I can't say anything really bad about the place, except for the OP's question, which I took to mean asking about the mongering scene, for a limited vacation, which is FAR better other places.

It would not be my choice for a place to settle, but to each their own - I live in Miami, speak a little spanish, and am familiar with the latin culture - PR, while a US Commonwealth, is certainly not Peoria  I don't think the average gringo w/ limited spanish, and culutral familiary would like it, but to each their own.
