Post subject:  Is there a daily exchange limit at the banks!
Just wanted to know if the banks in SJ limit the amount of currency that can be exchanged on a daily basis. When I was in Mexico, several banks had an exchange limit of $300 per day. So it forced us to go to several different banks. Any information would be helpful. Thanks

Unless something has changed I have never had a problem changing upwards of $1000 in colones if need be at a bank. Again, it has been a while since it has been more than a couple hundo so it could have changed, but to my knowledge you are good.

BCR will change "any" amount. Citi and some of the other private banks will only change up to $500 dollars if you do not have an account there.

I was taking up to $1000 to the BCR on Avenida One next to Papis from time to time, and never had any limits placed on me.

Thanks all for the information. I'll head to BCR when I arrive and change 1000. If I have any problems I'll post here. Otherwise, thanks again to all.

Go to the BAC upstairs at the airport you can exchange up to 3,000...or maybe it's 7,000.
