I would like to start by saying thanks to all that post on this site. Great Info! Even though I just signed up for the site, I have been lurking for a month or so and have found a lot of great info! The problem is, is that there is so much info I dont know what is correct. I have a few question that I know have been answered before but I was hoping to get all the info on one thread. lol I be will heading to CR in a few weeks and plan on staying in SJ for one night and Jaco for 3. If not I will be in Jaco for 4 nights. My main reason for going is to partake in the local talent and surf for acouple days.

1. Where is the best place to stay that has security and is nicer than a 2 star hotel. Not to sound like a prud but I like staying in places at about 100.00 / 150.00 per night. It will have to except chicas. Also being close to the action would be nice but not a must.

2. Is it safe to walk around in Jaco during the day/ beach area. Im from LA so I have street smarts but it never hurts to ask.

3. Is there any action during the day in Jaco. I like a little bacon with my eggs! Waking up in the morning and breaking off a piece is always nice.

4. Any other places to vist in Jaco other than MB and BB

5. Any ******* services in Jaco that wont cost me 300.00 per hour and no Bait and switch

Safety wise - I think if I carry a copy of my passport, put everything in the hotel safe, take a taxi everywhere at night (even if its two block), dont drink the water and wrap little jack I should be fine! I want to thank everyone in advance for the help. I appreciate it! I also posted in roll call if anyone is going to be in CR at the same time. I will make sure to post as soon as I get back.

Depends what you really want to accomplish - if its the beach and surfing, Jaco will suffice - although there are far better beaches in CR - while you cannot surf in San Jose, the mongering scene is far better; too, many on this board hate Jaco - to me - and I've been there many times - its worth a visit; however know what you are getting and for sure, "Know before you go" - lots written about Jaco, pro and con on the board ; search function is your friend :)

It will have to except chicas. Also being close to the action would be nice but not a must. Check out "Canciones del Mar - others recommend "Claritas", however its not a 3 or 4 star place, but both places are close to the action - I think Jaco hotels are overpriced for what you get; price paid for being the closest beach to SJ

2. Is it safe to walk around in Jaco during the day/ beach area. Im from LA so I have street smarts but it never hurts to ask.Its safe; I don't find it too bad at night; again others may not agree - just don't be loud, drunk and act stupid and you will likely be fine

3. Is there any action during the day in Jaco. I like a little bacon with my eggs! Waking up in the morning and breaking off a piece is always nice. Nope - not unless you have arrainged for it the night before - action in Jaco is the Beatle Bar, at night - Mionkey Bar is mostly dead

4. Any other places to vist in Jaco other than MB and BB Maybe, but I've never found any - see above for comment re the Monkey Bar

5. Any ******* services in Jaco that wont cost me 300.00 per hour and no Bait and switch This I can't help you with other than to say you will not need any as the Beatle Bar will likely service your needs

Safety wise - I think if I carry a copy of my passport, put everything in the hotel safe, take a taxi everywhere at night (even if its two block), dont drink the water and wrap little jack I should be fine! Probably a good idea; re the water, I've never had an issue in CR in over 30 trips drinking it - you may find that you may want to spend another night in SJ vs 3 in Jaco, but that's just a suggestion - I've fished Jaco numerous times, but find that 2 nights are plenty - remember, its off season, rainy season until December - have a good trip :)

Cabarete in the Dominican Republic had been a better choice and it's safer. If you're a young buck and has game, you would have plenty of young tourists to try your luck. Cabarete is kind like a young people's heaven. I'm older so, Sosua is perfect for me!
If you find good sex in Costa Rica it will probably be from a fresh Dominicana, that's the reason I decided to go to the source, with no regrets. It doesn't mean that I wouldn't try other places. I was in Medellin a couple of times, and I'm leaning toward going to Angeles City in September, but Costa Rica is not in my plans anymore.
Good luck.

Hi all,

first I have to say thank you to all of you for all the information. This forum is awesome!

I'm in CR right now and I wished I had found this site earlier!!! :D

I will stay in SJ until Wednesday for 3 more days and then go to Jaco for a week.

Is there by any chance someone of you in SJ atm that is interested to share some of his expirience with a noob?

Thanks in advance!

One way to quit being a newbie quickly is to engage Brother Pops for a customized tour of SJO or wherever in CR. Here's his site: http://www.popsguideservice.net/

Cocal has security and reasonable rooms. I like it because they have some talent there at the bar and casino.

The Beetle Bar is now run by some arrogant pricks. They don't even try to be nice. They charge an outrageous cover charge. Here is what to expect as you walk to the door, some young prick will give you a TSA style pat down while he makes jokes, giggles with the hookers and make a few smart ass comments. You enter the bar and a bouncer wannabe with some minor muscle development (that he thinks is intimidating) will grab your arm or push you on your back to make sure you face the stern and condescending cashier who will bark out the cover charge. If you've ever been to county lock-up this is what it will feel like. After you pay you are allowed to exit the catch chute and go to the bar. If this was America I would have the prick TSA greeter and the "bouncer tuff" on the ground with at least one broken bone in 2.3 seconds. Since it's CR and I don't want get stuck in a foreign country I endured the humiliation for some play. Even the hookers are robbed by Beetle Bar, but I met a really nice one.

If at all possible stay away from Beetle Bar and catch some women at Cocal. There is some club that opens late and a young guy can get laid there easily. It looked like a lot of fun.

Have Fun in Jaco. I always do, and I would have a blast if the cops looked the other way when I show the employees of Beetle Bar some humility.

Maybe things have changed since my last trip to Jaco in January (although I doubt it) but I think you are overstating the "routine" at the BB just a tad :?: Have been there at least 3 trips whereby they have instituted the cover, and used the wand. Then again, I'm in my 50's and don't look at all intimidating - not picking on you in particular, but is it possible - just maybe - you are giving off the wrong "vibes"? Just sayin' b/c the 3 guys I travel to Jaco with have never encountered any issues w/ the "screeners" either. We pay our fee, get the wristband and that's it. (And if the entrance fee is the price of A/C - it was not before - I'll pay it).

I do Agree w/ you - I hate the cover charge, but I've never been subject to the pat down as you have described it - unfortunitely, the BB is for most intents and purposes, the only game in town for the vast majority looking for a sure thing - its why I tell people if they have mongering on the brain, San Jose is the best place to stay.

This was in July. I have never had problem at Beetle Bar until this new crew in July. When i first walked up I held out my arms for the frisk as I knew the drill. I had a flashlight on my belt and the punk took it off and said to the whores in Spanish that I must use that as my dick. They laughed and he giggled like a little girl to them, then he starts trying to shine it up under their skirts saying "bicho bicho" then he had to put on a little macho show for them and issue insults to me in Spanish. I speak Spanish, but I must look like English only Gringo. Then I walked in where this dude comes over and grabs my arm to turn me to face the Stasi cashier. Then pushes me towards her. This is when I got upset.

I can't imagine what I did or how I caused all this reaction, other than I looked stronger than they did and this was all posturing to show me who was boss. Thats the impression I got. They were all insecure. They didn't want me coming in and making them feel like they were out of control.
