Yeah, the MP's in CR are essentially brothels in all but name. Since pimping is illegal, the "massage parlor" name is used instead so they can be legal. Technically most if not all of the them are pensiones, short-term room-rental places. See, you're not paying the place for the girl, but for the room, usually for an hour, and if something more than just a massage should happen, well, that's of no concern to to anyone else.
The girls at the HDR and SL are true independents, you negotiate and pay them directly, and they keep all the money, so they're not MP's. However, since they are hotels with hookers in the on-site bars, they do indeed act like a brothel. Face it, the HDR especially is one giant pink whorehouse.
$5 is plenty for a tip at HLH, and it should be enough, but years of excessive tipping practices by gringos have spoiled the girls, many of them will want $20 or even more, unless Boyd has cracked down on that issue. Best to find a newer girl who hasn't yet been taught to demand $20 tips, those girls won't even ask for a tip, so anything you give them will be appreciated. Pamela is no longer there, so that helps, she was notorious for training her proteges in demanding big tips.
