Most of the girls are shaved bald. My suggestion is to stay at either Sportsman's Lodge or Dunn Inn. I have stayed at the HDR several times during my first few trips to Costa Rica a couple years ago, and from my experience both the Dunn Inn and Sportsman's are better....much better! The rooms are nicer, cleaner and not as loud. Take a taxi to and from the HDR to pick-up the girls, its just as easy as taking them back to your room at the HDR and cheaper. A taxi ride to the Sportsman's or Dunn Inn is only a couple of minutes, and at most 2k colones depending where you get the taxi.

No matter where you decide to stay you will have a great trip.

Advanced booking depends upon what hotel you want to stay at. If you're staying at HDR, you're probably good a month or two before... as opposed to places like Sportsmens where it's better to book sooner than later. I wasn't going to recommend HDR, but it looks like your sex tour may be intense... so maybe HDR is right for you. (If you don't mind mediocre, overpriced rooms and $10 per chica fees. )

Any fetishes you may enjoy should be negotiated up-front... you don't want any surprises (disappointments) back in the room. Yes, most of the working girls are clean shaven... you can also ask about that during the preliminaries.

Howdy, TJP, and welcome aboard.

Hard to advise you about the air fare...all depends on if you're one of the lucky who have ready access to flights to SJO.

However, NOT staying at the HDR might be a good thing for you. Staying at a "CRT hotel" might work the best: La Amistad; Dunn Inn; Hotel Castillo; Sportsmen's Lodge are the tops...there are a couple more......these hotels are less than a 2 min cab ride/walk to the HDR and will give you access to other CRT members who will, for the most part, be happy to show you the ropes: There are a couple of good places away from the HDR like New Fantasy and Hotel Little Havana that give you options Del Rey does not. Both New Fantasy and HLH are another 2min walk or cab ride from any of the hotels I've noted. Truth be told, Sportsmen's Lodge is basically CRT's version of Hotel Del Rey. There was a character in a James Bond movie that sums up the Lodge: Pusssy Galore...as in for days. Hustle isn't near as intense (if at all) when compared to Hotel Del Rey and it's basically a CRT frathouse as well.

Nothing prevents you from going on over to the Del Rey from any of them to see the show, which for a first trip shall be a sight to behold.....as well as a freak show all rolled into one. You can find your product there if you like and go back to a far more sedate and comfortable environment at one of the above hotels where you are going to get far more bang for your buck. FAR MORE. (food is better; people around you are better; staff are better; towels (!) are better, but be sure to use the correct side of the towel; etc., etc., etc.

Seriously, consider NOT staying at the HDR. Too, if you decide to become a CRT "VIP" member, you'll get good hotel discounts at the named facilities. In fact, if you stay a week, the discounts pay for the membership. I understand you've got it set for 4nights and your planning is way in advance, so you're probably wanting this first experience to be short and sweet: sufficient to make you want to return.

Good luck. It's all there buddy.....you name it, you can have it....

Florida,
I am not picking on you but do you realize that 2K is around $4.00??!!! The biggest under discussed ripoff is the cab fare from Sportmens/Dunn etc. It should and does only cost around 500-600 colones or about $1.00. Multiply that $4.00 x 2 or 4 times per day and it adds up big. The cabs right in front of the Sportmens are the biggest rip off of all. I always walk down 1/2 block and catch a cab on the fly and I always have 100 colones coins in my pocket and I pay out 500 or 600 to the guy no matter what he says.

Excellent comment, Estebanh:

A correct meter ride to HDR or Key Largo from SL is the minimum maria...whatever it is now. The guys running "maria taxi" from the SL have 'em running fast.

I've learned to stick my head in the passenger window of a taxi and, in Spanish, ask 'em NO MARIA. 500 Colones and it works most of the time.....However, it doesn't work from the SL. As you know, I stay at Amistad. I flag down the taxi zooming by Amistad and 8x out of 10x I get what I want. For 500 colones I get from Amistad to Auto Mercado also (or at least did in September 2010).

It gets a bit complex for new guys with respect to fast running meters (that's what the "maria" is new guys reading this). It's all about being culturally sensitive.  8) :P

I like counting my money. I don't like spending it. 8)

Yeah i know that's overpriced but when you are walking out the Del Rey at 2am with a hottie on your arm i don't want to walk down to the corner to catch a taxi going by with all the rift raft that hangs outside at night. During the day I will wait for a taxi driving by before i will go with one of the drivers at the Del Rey unless it's Oscar who drives a van, and always works with me on the price since i have him pick me up and drop me off at the airport each trip. Your point is noted that the price is 4 times what it should.

Thank you Zunbake3! I have taken my cues from Joey Ramone: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dhh24BB84e4

I wanna be sedated and the best place to do that is in a sedate setting 8)

Not as experienced as many other brothers here, but I would worry first about booking a hotel. I've always stayed at the SL, and have never had any regrets, so I havent had the need to try anyone else. SL books months in advance, so if you wait too long the pickings might be a bit slim. Just my cinco colones... 8)

A $60-$80 girl at the Del Rey is sexier and more fun that probably 98% of the hookers in the USA.
