OK...I am an experienced monger in the US but this will be my first trip to CR and I have a minor delima.

I am coming down of a free flight (freequent flyer points on Frontier) and they only have one flight to CR and it lands at 530AM on a Monday. Now what do I do at 5:30 in the morning.

I assume I will have to reserve a room for Sunday night but not use it until Monday morning unless someone here has a better idea.

OH....I was thinking of driving to Jaco for the first day or 2 of my trip before heading back to experience the gulch.

Any help is appreciated.

You may want to go ahead and rent the room the day prior, at least you have until check out to get some sleep. You could always have a driver( I recommend one of CRT sponsors) take you straight to the Del Rey. There are chicas working that early, most are the bench warmers left over, but not always. You can have breakfast there too and the bar will be open. If you meet something you like then having the room already lined up could come in handy.

snowtop ....you wont be in the gulch until 7am ...take your time .....if you can go to the sportmens ....check your bag there ...see if they have a room ...worst case you check in at 12 ....just having your bag at a safe place gives you the freedom to move about ...you can hit a mp ....get something to eat ...get on the computer at sportmens ....of just go to the DR and play with the am girls.....why go to Jaco ....going there solo wont be that fun.....get your ass to the sportmens and make some friends ...my flight leaves about the same time you will be getting your bags on monday ...

Jaco isn't a bad place to go if you are traveling with family or friends. If you are going solo stay in San Jose. Also, don't pay for a room until you get there. If the Del Rey or Sportsman's Lodge or Dunn Inn has a vacant room for the night that is ready to be occupied I'm sure they will let you check-in early. If you call the day before you won't have any luck but if you show-up at the registration desk wanting a room for the night and one is available i doubt they would turn you away. I would also suggest trying the Sportsman's Lodge or Dunn Inn first and if that doesn't work then go with the Del Rey. Either way i wouldn't pay for the night before when you are only going to use the room for a few hours that day.

Some hotels in the US will give you an early check in but I doubt you will find the same in CR unless it is US owned and operated AND the room you were going to be assigned is vacant.

I faced a similar problem when I flew into Amsterdam and this is what I did; check your bags at the hotel where you intend to stay, walk downtown, find a good restaurant and have an elongated brunch, with several cocktails.
