I wont be arriving at SJO until 940 pm on a tuesday. I imagine it will take an hour and a half or 2 after landing to make it to hotel, is this an accurate assumption?

I am trying to finalize my accommodations and was wondering if anyone can give me some advice on where I should stay the first night and be able to get some action before I call it a night.

I am considering SL or DI for my stay, how late are girls around SL?

I am also thinking about staying at HLH or DR for my first night just to be near the action as soon as i arrive.

How late are the girls at HLH working? is the DR an all night party spot? or does it close at 1 or 2?

can anyone offer me any advice on arriving so late?

Not a big deal. You should be at the hotel by 10:30 if you don't have a checked bag. There won't be a line at immigration nor customs. There won't be any traffic, so it's a 20-25 minute ride in. There should still be some girls at SL, but it starts to thin out after 10, and earlier if it's dead. HLH closes at 9pm as far as I know. NF is open later, I think midnight. HDR is 24/7/365, but the pickings get slimmer the later you go. Stay wherever you want, it won't affect your options.

my pretty good guess you should be able to get to the gulch by 11pm ....sportmens may have a few girls there but I would stay at the morazen or dunn inn the first night.... you will be at prime time for key largo and delrey ...if you stay at the dunn inn its worth checking out vips 1 down the street from the dunn inn (other direction to the delrey) try to get that seat near the door on your arriving flight to san jose.
Once out of plane ,walk fast to beat anyone to the line for id check , once though that you should a few extra mins to buy some liquor at the duty free ....bags will come off and out the door you go....by pass all taxi's and find the oldest guy out on the street and tell $ 20 to the morazan or dunn in.....your trip starts then....enjoy every second of it .....you need anymore info ...just ask

I'm not sure if taking a pirate taxi at 10pm in Costa Rica is the sound advice for a newbie first timer. I would suggest that you take an licensed official airport taxi. When you are walking out of the terminal, you will start to see guys in white shirts with an ID around their necks. Those are the airport taxi drivers. Tell one of them where you are going (if your Spanish is weak, have a printout with the name, address, and phone number of your hotel), you don't want him getting lost and running up the meter. The driver will take your bag and walk you to his orange-colored taxi parked along the curb. You pay in colones (dollars are ok too-if he won't accept dollars run inside the hotel and exchange some) at the end of your ride.

You'll be fine. If you really want to get there in time to maybe pick up an SL chica:

1. don't check a bag in
2. get an aisle seat close to the door
3. run (walk fast) to immigration
4. go directly thru customs and get outside
5. take the first official taxi you see

I have made it to my hotel in 30 minutes after landing before, and it was in the morning when the traffic was light. At night, traffic is non-existent.
