Post subject:  MONEY!!

I know the question i am asking is hard to answer but just need some inputs. I will be coming to costa rica in november 20th and stay there till december 13th.
I am just wondering, me and my friends are staying in castillo sharing rooms so hotel prices are not that expensive.. I am just wondering. Will 2000 US dollars be fine for 2 weeks?.... if we eat in the cheap local sodas... we are pretty much going to stay in san jose and have fun at various MP's maybe once or twice in the HDR since its expensive.
please any inputs will be helpful....

It ought to be enough...as long as you're not including air fare, which also depepnds on where are you flying from. I usually make it a week at a time, and spend about 1200 to 1400 including room, but I drink and eat like a rock star....

Excluding your plane ticket, the short answer to your question: yes... you can make it on $2,000 for 2 weeks. However, you won't be wining and dining many "novias". This kind of budget may cramp the style of many CRTers, but it can be done.

Splitting a room at Castillo, your share should be about $30 - $35 per night for a deluxe unit with VIP and extended stay discounts. Eat the Castillo gallo pinto breakfast, dine at the tico sodas (and minimize the pricier gringo-oriented places) and you can keep your food bill at $10/day or less. Beers at the favorite gringo watering holes cost around $1.75 and up... so if you like to drink a lot, do it at your hotel with beer or liquor from the nearest supermarket. If you stick to centro SJ, your taxi fares should not be more than $5/day when traveling solo... and even less if sharing a ride.

After all is said and done, that will leave you with $1,000 - $1,200 for entertainment. MPs are fixed rates with an approximate price range of $25 - $55 per hour session (depending upon the establishment). Typically, independents in the main pick-up venues can be negotiated for $50 - $80 per session... YMMV.

thank you blue devil..
yea i figured this should suffice. I will take some extra just incase. Yea we (me and my friend) are sharing a room for the first 8 days and darren ( hotel castillo manager/owner) was kind enough to give us a very good discount. and last 4 days we are getting our single rooms because those days we are planning to hit the HDR and bring chica back so we all want our own little privacy with the chicas if you knw what i mean. but yea. I know there is soda amon near hotel castillo. are there enough local cheap sodas for lunch bc we dont want to spend money as you said on expensive restuarante so will we be able to find alot near by...
might go to some trips. Atv/canopy, water rafting etc...
just wondering planning to bring my laptop because it is wifi in castillo. is it safe to bring my laptop if i keep it locked in my luggage every time i leave the hotel..??
thank you

you see i read the op as saying he was coming down with friends, sharing rooms etc. wasn't sure if he was asking about that 2000 being only for him or being communal funds.

There are plenty of sodas nearby and throughout the city. One of my favorites is "La Criolitta." It's about a 5 minute walk from the hotel. I always bring my lap-top to the Castillo, and keep it out of sight whenever I leave the hotel. I haven't had any problems.

It's not enough money. Go to Colombia instead and stay in a hostel, PM Rainman3 for info. :D

Seriously though that's 153.85/day and your hotel has to come out of that. BlueDevil covered it well, shouldn't be a problem as long as you don't go crazy with the top shelf HDR/SL chicas (but sometimes you meet one you just have to have  ). Post a report and let us know how it went.

IMHO, Medellin is a viable alternative to San Jose.

About your laptop's security--It should be OK in your locked luggage but personally, I use one of those Kensington cable locks. And the wall safes fit netbook computers just fine. A side note: hotels and the SL bar have computers you can use though data-security may be an issue.

Not a ton to add, but a few things on how to keep expenses low at the start so you can splurge later.

1) Buy fruit at mercado central and each fruit for lunch or dinner once every other day or so.

2) Eat at Mercado central- 3 bucks a meal no problem.

3) Walk during the day, or take the bus around. Its really not that bad. Split cabs at night.

4) Booze- Often a big expense. Buy a couple of bottles at duty free. Have a flask with you.

5) If you are multi pop a day guy, try some of the lower end MPs around calle 6 and start the day with a half hour session.

6) On low budget trips I have had in the past, I like to be conservative at first, so I can party hard at selected times.

7) Carefully back things you will need so you don't have to buy them. Ibuprophen, condoms, sunblock, ect.

8) Watch the little things, they add up fast.

9) Since you are going for two weeks, have a couple of days when you only do a couple of half hour sessions at MPs, or one, god forbid. This alows you to keep the money for when you want some TLNs with some hoties.

10) Try a day or two of non pay for pu*sy, and try to pick up some ladies out of the gultch. The nice things is, if you stike out, you know you are getting laid whenever you wish.

11) Try some low end night time places like Bar Camelot (is that even around???) or Molino Rojo.

12) Forgot to add this, but buy bottled water at the story in large jugs. Have one water bottle to carry around. Buying random drinks adds up a lot.

Mix and match some of these statagies and you can save a bunch a day and not feel deprived. I personally LOVE eating a meal a day at the Mercado central or an inexpensive soda, and feel better when I eat one light meal a day (fruit). Make sure to plurge big time on the chicas and a good meal from time to time. Enjoy.

thank you so much hank daman..
that really helped. just a quick question though.. where exactly is mercado central? is it close from hotel castillo like walking distance or do i need a taxi? is marcado central is just big markets with just food stores? is it safe at night to eat there?
also if you have poor spanish skills, can you still pick up a chick?
im sorry i mite sound dumb, but i have heard many talked about picking up chicas from teh gulch? where exactly is the gulch?
or from where exactly would i can find like regular girls who would go out with me without money? is it possible, are the girls in costa rica, i am talking about regular girls, not ******* or hdr girls, very friendly?
and where would i find big bottle water? regular sodas or in marcado central?
