Hi All,
Wondering if anyone knows where a safe, perhaps guarded parking lot is in the gulch. I rent a car while in costa rica because I drive around and spend time in Guanacaste and exploring other parts. In san jose I have always stayed at the Sleep Inn where they have a gated and guarded lot. I walk alot and take taxis when in doubt so I don't really drive around in San Jose. This trip I will be hoteling away from the gulch but will come in different times. I know enough to never leave anything of value in the car and carry it with me. Kind of a pain in the ass, actually. Was hoping for one of Pop's tours but he is out of town. Anyone have any info please?

I´d say any 24 hrs parking lot within the gulch is safe, just make sure it is a 24 hrs and DO NOT let them keep the car keys. (this happens when the parking lot is small and they have to move cars)

For reference 3 blocks west from HDR across from Banco de San Jose or edificio Ovni there is one.
The one behind the Holiday inn is huge and safe.
Down the hill from the HDR there is another one.

My 2 cents

Mente

I use the one next to the NY Bar and never have had a problem. Open 24 hours. It can get crowded and if you are parked in front of another car you will have to leave your car key. If you are there first no need to leave the key. Not all lots are 24 hour make sure you check.

If I get their early enough, I park on the street along KL and BM. Never had a problem. There is a guard around the BM and I float him 500 -1000 colonies to, "extend his services to my car." If I let him know, he blocks off a space just past the spaces in front of BM.
