My question is ,I'll be arriving in San Jose at 8:00pm on the 2nd a Tuesday night Im staying at the SL. I figure by the time I get to the SL Itll be around 10:00pm Considering the time and day of the week whats my best option for my first tica experience? |

If the pickings are slim at the SL, the Del Ray is a 2 minute taxi ride away... You won't have any problem getting rid of that nuisance nut... |

If you have been reading here, you will note the key to Muadid statement is " taxi ride away" I suggest after unloading, have a drink first at Sl you stand a chance of finding some there who head down there with you, Have fun |

You made the right choice for a 1st trip by staying at the SL--the frat house atmosphere and instant comaraderie of that venue should do you well. I assume you have or soon will read deeply of the Newbie's Forum, especially Brother Orange's Thread CR for Dummies (#16357). Now without getting all hot about it, only CR women are Ticas--all the women are Chicas but they come from all over Latin America and the Dominican Republic to work here, and Nicas in particular are proud of their heritage. Easy mistake to make (confusing Ticas with Chicas) but please rid yourself of it. Actually your arrival timing is pretty good if you don't suffer trip exhaustion--the band doesn't even start at the Key Largo (KL) until 10 PM and if you're hungry (for food I mean), their's a restaurant there plus a 24/7 restaurant Chelles about a block away. |

May seem like odd advice, but just get a cheapie as soon as you get there. Pretty much just take anything and get a nut before doing any hunting. If you hunt without getting a nut first, you might get trapped by the first fast talker that comes along.. |

Thanks for the info...I have been reading a lot on here the last few months... I keep hearing about taking a taxi at night, is it really that dangerous? I have no problem taking taxis but, sometimes its fun to wander around and check out the scene. Is it ok to walk around in the day time? Also is it true the SL closes up around midnight? If so is all the action at the Del Rey in the late hours? Is it a good idea to keep all valuables(cash, camera, passport)in the hotel safe? My plan is to carry a copy of my passport with me and whatever cash I need. Has anyone gone to the Pirata? looks nice on the website... Ill be arriving on 11/2 and should be at the SL by 10pm. If anyone plans on being there i'll by the first drink... |

Enjoy, take advice but use common sense and your own instincts. Lot's of "experts" when you are in forum land, but when you dig a bit, you find the man behind the curtain, like in Oz. I've actually met some "newbies" to CR recently, who have a much better grasp on the scene than many of our "true believers". Don't think of it as rocket science, just go out there and have a good time with a little caution. And if you meet an expert, run!! ![]() |
