I've been posting here for a while and am remiss in introducing myself to the brotherhood...
I'm just another disillusioned Norte Americano who is searching for the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow... Between the state of the economy in the US, the runaway political correctness, unrelenting fiscal insanity (by both parties) of the US government, lack of any type of sane female, etc ad nauseum, I have been planning my exit from the US... I've been traveling the world for the last few years searching for the proverbial Valhalla... That place with a relaxed lifestyle that won't break the bank, relative safety, good infrastructure / medical care, reasonable visa / residency requirements, easy access to international travel and of course, friendly natives...
After having spent a considerable amount of time in SEA over the last few years searching for 'the spot', I have come to realize that every country in that region of the world is not without it's own set of problems... Different dog, different fleas... This realization, along with prior experience in Central / South America has led me to evaluate CR as a possible paradise lost...
My overall impression of both CR and the CRT brotherhood is quite positive...
Never, in all of my travels have I met such a group of truly friendly, helpful and like-minded guys... From the moment I hit the ground until the day I left, I did not have one negative experience... Aside from the effect that child-birth has on the body of some young latinas and the fact that they can't make a decent Adobo at Tin Jo... Brothers went out of their way to show my wingman & I around town, provide tips & advice, give that on-hand experience that normally takes multiple visits to glean and to party with... There has to be a few stinkers in the mix, but overall a great group of guys... I made more new friends in 9 days in CR than I have made in the US in the last year...
The impression that I get from other travelers & expats living in CR is that the positives outweigh the negatives... Sure, all dogs have fleas, but are they unbearable... I asked many questions about the quality / cost of living in CR and was surprised by some of the answers... Surprised in a good way... Enough so that I will be returning to explore more of the country, again, searching for that spot... I love the diversity that is CR... Planning a motorcycle trip from Jaco to Tamarindo and back in the dry season...
I'll be back in SJ over the weeks of Halloween & Thanksgiving to continue my studies at the SL, IDEM, NF, HDR, etc...
Perhaps I still have the rose colored glasses on, but I am looking forward to peeling back the layers of CR...
Buena Suerte mi amigos...
