This is going to be a long ass post, so please be patient, it's my first time and I am still reading the forums and trying to learn everything.

Ok, so a week ago, I was on a message board and a escort mentioned she had just come back from CR and she mentioned the crazy things in that country, and upon further research and information from her, she mentioned to check this site out and I have been reading what I can (minus the VIP sections since I am still waiting for my membership to be approved) about the country, its prostitution, its strip clubs, massage parlors, etc and still totally blown away.

I have a feeling I will be back numerous times (thank god I have racked up over 100K in airline miles and i only need 30K to get a free ticket on american airlines to CR). This will be my FIRST trip, probably solo. The dates I am looking at are 10/8 and leaving the 14th (6 nights). Not too long, but not too short. My first trip is going to be in SJ only. No venturing outside the city.

First question. I see the Dunn Inn and the SL are offering 10-20% discounts for CRT VIP members (slow recovery beater discount). Since this is my first trip, I am just looking to book the cheapest room I can before I come back for future trips. Dunn Inn is offering stay 4 nights, get the 5th free for about 285US Dollars. The SL is offering 20% room rates, so for the standard room, its about 47 plus tax, so around the same price. The thing I picked up on is, Dunn Inn has no chica fee for VIP members. Not sure if SL waives that fee or not.

So based on this, would you rather stay at the Dunn Inn or SL?

2nd question is this. The escort who hooked me on Costa Rica mentioned 2 massage parlors, but I have not seen them mentioned in Oranges Costa Rica for dummies (thank you for that Orange by the way) noobie thread. The 2 places in question are the Europa2000 and another MP across the street from it. Here is the information from that escort

"From the Delrey walk down ½ mile make a right on Central Ave (Main Street) make another right walk ¼ mile till you see a big sign that says Europa 2000 on the left side of the street..That is the first one..Full Bar Incall only $25 ½ $40 1 hour. 30 beautiful girls available in there late 20’s Massage,BBBJTC,and or full servcice..Included. But Directly across the street you will see a building with a little green sign that says MP..Now that’s the place..20 girls to choose from and it $14 ½ hour/ $25 1Hour"

Anyone know these 2 places? Would you recommend it?

3rd question is. Obviously I need to take a Taxi everywhere I go at night, and I got phone numbers of Tax drivers like guestvo and his brothers to give me a ride from the airport to my hotel (still to be decided), and back when I leave, but should I call guestovo if I am looking to go like 2,3 or even 4 blocks up the road or would you recommend I just take any taxi for that instead of calling him and him being on the other side of town or would you just walk the 2, 3 blocks at night?

4th question is this. I recently read a report about a noobie named Travelmutt ( http://costaricaticas.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=35049 ) who said he just jumped into the session with the girl and she pretty much controlled everything, but admitted he was too nervous to negotiate and just paid the rate that was quoted to him. If I like a Tica and want her, but she speaks no english or even bad english and I speak no SPANISH, is asking her if she sucks dick without a condom, asking her if i can do her in the ass something appropriate to say to a girl or do you just hint at what you want without being SO BLUNT and negotiate?

5th question: The first time you went to CR, what did you spend, and on average, what do some of you guys spend on mongering activities while there?

6th question: Would you recommend getting a cellphone service (read somewhere that some give it to you for free to use, others charge 10/day or a week or something) incase I like a Tica so much and want her to come back or need to call a cab driver and there are no phones around?

7th question is: I am only 35, so since this is my first visit, I am going to be hanging out at the Blue Marlin or SL bar and than maybe hitting the HDR for late night activity. Other than screwing Ticas at the hotel, massage parlor and strip clubs, is there anything else you guys do to pass the time when you are not in the mood?

8th question is this: Would it be better to bring cash and just convert it all to colones or just bring a couple hundred with me, and pull more money out of the atm if I need it or is that a bad idea due to ATM fees?

9th question: Don't tip cab drivers like a gringo and dont tip at restraunts or massage parlors because they already include the fee or surcharge in it. If I have a cab driver on call, am i still not suppose to tip or should I tip him a good bonus for taking me around to various hidden spots and being on call for me?

10th question: What is the 1 mistake you made as a rookie that made you learn quickly NOT TO DO IT AGAIN?

First question: Contact BKTuna (username) via PM, he can answer all ur DI questions..

Second: Europa2000 is pretty old school, contact Bangbang57 for all the toilet MP's in SJ...

Third: No, dont call gustavo for trivial rides, once you join up with some bro's at sl more then likely u will be riding together. And while its not mandatory to know spanish..know that some of these answers may change if you did know..

Fourth: Do you know spanish? If so, talk to chicas and pick them up just as you would in English. Its really corny when the only spanish you know is sex acts, best to leave it alone and try and communicate that "smoother".. If you act like a monger, you'll get treated like one; as he did :|

5th: My first trip I went 12 days and took 5k, came back with 2800...

6th: personally part of being away is not having to worry about a cell. If a chica wants to get a hold of you, she can leave a message at the front desk. If you still need one, Orange is the man on that..

7th- understand that being 35 puts you about 15 years younger then other mongers...use that to your advantage..

8th- I bring all cash and (maybe) exchange a hundo every 2 days at SL..
9th- tip cabbies unless they are overcharging you .. be a good guy and tip but not if ur getting jobbed..
10th- sit back and let things come to you...no need to have ur monger radar on...chicas will find you

Those are my answers, hope it helps.. 8)

GfeHunting:

Welcome to the board.

1.) If it was my first trip, I would stay at SL....I know BkTuna is gonna hammer me for that one, b/c I nearly always stay at Dunn now... SL is ground zero without getting screwed by the hotel management..one stop shopping and lots of good guys to chat with for info regarding where to go, what to do etc. Dunn has this crowd also, but on a smaller scale right now. When their casino opens..different story.

2.) Bangbang57 or Pops would be ones to talk to about this one. I have my favorite MP's and rarely deviate.

3.) Just don't take taxis in front of Del Rey at night and you will be OK.

4.) I always chat with the chica first. Point of info.."Tica" means any female from Costa Rica, not just working chicas. Please don't use the terms "Tica, Chica, and Puta" interchangeably. OK, I speak Spanish and have no problem getting to the point with them....time is money. If you have a good rapport going, let them know what you want in English. Most likely they will know what you are talking about, and will not be offended. I have never run into a chica who took offense with discussing leche en la boca or "la chiquita" in SJO.

5.) I spent too much I guarantee...but don't worry about it, just have fun.

6.) I've never really needed a cell phone there. If you don't speak Spanish, chances are it will be fairly useless.

7.) "Other than screwing chicas????" are you serious? No really, it depends on what you like to do. I'm sure theres a lot to do in the Gulch...I just spend my time screwing and recharging for the next screwing, usually chatting up the next chica.

8.) I don't trust ATM's. I was in Argentina in 2002 when all the ATMs stopped working for the ten days of my trip. Luckily, I had friends there who spotted me cash. The ATM at the INS building, second floor, has never charged me a fee. Might depend on your bank. I bring enough $ to pay for everything I will need at minimum, and draw out about 100K colones/day at the ATM.

9.) I don't worry about tips....I know I overtip, but it is a personal choice.

10.) First trip mistake....mmmmmmm can't really remember that far back. Second or third trip I fell asleep with a chica in my room at the Best Western n the Hood..no safe...big mistake. Lock your shit up and put your hand over the combination display while you are doing it. Hold it there when you close the safe (at Dunn Inn) as the combination will display for a couple of seconds after the safe locks.

Have a good trip and treat the locals well.

...Oh, forgot this one...

SL has no chica fee. They also have a pre-registration system for the chicas who hang in the bar...pretty good system.

wow Europa 2000! Closed for a few years now... a decent 7000 colone session could be had there! Similar choices abound. It's all here on this board ...do your research!

1. SL no Chica fees
2. I think they are out of business.
3. Gustavo to and from the airport. If he's around I'll use him.
4."Anal" sounds better than "Can I stick it in your ass. Blowjob no condom? DFK?, price? pay after? SL $40-60 an hour. $150 for a night? Most of the Chicas at SL and DR speak English. I would think massage parlors would have less English speaking. But who really cares.
5. On just girls about $1100 for 7 days 4th of July week.
6. Don't need a cell if you are staying for a short time.
7. Take a walk down Avenida Central. Lots of stores. Go zip lining.
8. Bring $1000 usd and put all valuables in the safe. Chica proof your room before and after you leave it. Bring your pants with any cash or ID in it into the bathroom when you shower and a Chica is there. Be smart.
9. I just give them 2000 colones to the DR from SL. I take a taxi from the DR to SL more often. The walk uphill to the SL is more of an effort. Don't walk at night, take taxi's.
10. Pay before. If they insist just kick them out. Next.

First Dunn Inn will be about $10-$15/day cheaper than the SL. Since you are a VIP member, the cheapest room at the DI is less than $50/day. SL does not have a chica fee. I doubt there's any rooms available at the SL for when you're traveling, so that decision is probably made for you.
Second I have no knowledge of those MP's.
Third Just grab a taxi - offer him 1000 colones ($2) for wherever you're going around town. If he doesn't take it, find another one.
Fourth You will find some ladies that the first thing out of their mouth is "Do you want to phuck me?" That's a real turn off for me. Almost always, they will ask you where you're from and how long will you be in CR. That's a good opening line for them - just answer them and try to carry on a normal conversation. Once you start negotiating a price, you can then ask about the BBBJ. You are not going to find very many that have the back door open. Start negotiating at $60; she will probably start at $100.
Fifth I usually spend about $150/day for everything (except airfare), but I buy food for the ladies and spend a few hours at the SL bar.
Sixth I have an unlocked cell phone, so I buy a sim card at the airport ($5 for about 100 local minutes). I find it very convenient to have a phone. I exchange numbers with the ladies I like, so that makes it easy to set up a date.
Seventh The Blue Marlin and the HDR are together. I prefer the SL ladies, but that's just my personal choice. I haven't been to any strip clubs, but I've heard most are rip-off's. I usually go walking around the city in the morning. Take care of money exchange/ATM's and any shopping that I want to do. If you stay at the DI, Boyd is a good source of information. He may even take a walk with you, and show you some of the sites.
Eighth I usually take enough cash to pay for the hotel and 4 or 5 days of expected expenses. Change $300 at the departure area at the airport when you arrive (see other threads for location - do not change in the baggage claim area). You can use dollars for the hotel and the ladies.
Ninth As I said, pay the cab driver 1000 Colones. I always tip the bartenders, and usually at the restaurants if the service is good. The tip added in your tab is 10%. The bartenders at the SL always treat me good. Am I buying that level of service - probably. Make sure you show them your CRT card when ordering at the SL so you get the 10% discount. If the service at the MP's is really good, give the lady a tip.
Tenth Picking up a woman after I had too much to drink.

These other good Brothers have about said it all--just a few things to add, by question:
(1) The SL and Dunn Inn are very different venues. I agree 1st time at the SL but take some time to tour the other hotels (the Castillo, Dunn Inn, and the Hotel Little Havana; maybe even others like the Morazan and the Royal Dutch).
(2) Maybe not this trip but Brother Pop's Guide service can get you grounded quick and I'd trust him--a taxi driver, not so much. http://www.popsguideservice.net/
(3) There are even some troublesome single blocks--any longer than that, Taxis at night are a safety must. We have some seriously hard guys on this Board will tell you the same.
(5) That total trip money question was asked recently; the consensus of 18 responders was about $250/day. That can vary wildly depending on how horny you are.
(7) Try the Key Largo across the street/parking lot from the Blue Marlin. I'd avoid strip clubs--as in the US, the are universally condemned here as rip-offs. If you want to go, engage Brother Pops and ask him. Also research here about day trips. Brother Prolijo has written extensively on this. If/when you get some Spanish, the clubs in San Pedro and elewhere can yield some big fun
(1) over-eagerness, pure and simple

Congrats on flyin' the flag.

Really good advice above.

I would pile on about the cell phone for first couple trips. Since you don't know Spanish, talking on the phone is IMPOSSIBLE  Think about it, you can't see them nodding or read body language on the phone to see if they are understanding you. Let them leave messages at the desk and let whoever is working the desk translate them for you.

No matter which place you stay, I would add La Amistad to your list of DI and SL are booked, sit and talk up some fellow dudes. The best intel is just talking to guys over a drink or three 8)

Pops is an excellent option like mentioned above, especially if you are on the shy side.

Lastly, EVERYONE makes "mistakes". Avoid the life endangering ones and learn from the others. Oh yea, and HAVE FUN :D

I don't want to be argumentative, but I don't understand this. I didn't have a cell phone during my first trip and missed a couple of ladies I wanted to see. They left messages at the hotel, but by the time I received the message, they weren't answering their phone. I didn't speak Spanish (learning a little now), and I haven't had a problem communicating with the ladies on the phone. I think the $10 sim card is one of the best investments I made. It's a convenience factor for me.

Brother GDJ presents a valid argument (no, you weren't being argumentative, merely making a case). Bottom line: If you think a cell phone will be a help or even a comfort having one with you, get that SIM card or rent a cell. However, it's doubtful you'll be in an area (at least I hope not) where alternatives --having a restaurant person call a taxi, for example--are not available--those areas tend toward the dangerous. If you have a quad-band phone (or many tri-bands--and both are available cheaply on the Net), SIM cards are available from an ICE booth at the airport. "Search" here for details--it's been thoroughly discussed.
An alternative to the alternative is computer-based phone systems like MagicJack or Skype, if you need to phone in for work or want to make/receive calls from a fixed base. Both of these have been hashed over here too. Obviously of limited utility when you're out-and-about unless you walk around with a netbook and associated 'phone gear (highly NOT recommended--makes you even more of a target for badguys and petty thieves)

Yea, being my first trip at the time and solo like a motherfucker, I wanted to make sure I was covered..

I thought I may get a jab for #7 but I understand advice can sometimes seem like a slight even if not intended like in this case. Regardless, I feel its sound advice. 911 re-emphasises my point (eventhough I know he was kidding)

One of the main things that bothers me about p4p is guys lose all sight on how to court a woman with their "manly charm" and instead throw money to balance things. Again 911, I know you were kidding but this def happens everyday and night in SJ...
