Myself and 2 buddies (complete newbies) are flying down for a week around labor day and looking for a nice place to stay in both SJ and Jaco.

We'd prefer a place that offers a suite with 3BR's so that we can have a bit of a party in the hotel room, but, ultimately if not available clean rooms on the same floor will just have to suffice.

We are NOT on a budget, and don't mind spending over $100 (each of us) a night, and even considering a master suite at the Del Ray (was quoted $380 for the night, is it any good btw? No pictures on their website). That said, although we're not on a budget by any means, the idea of spending $xx on a Chica fee after we've already spent $xxx+ on a nice room really bothers us. Especially when I've heard some places, Hotel Presidente, for example, charges 'per tica', and, we're likely to have 2-3 for EACH of us over the course of each day, or hell perhaps at the same time (which is a shame because their rooms do look nice, especially that master suite). The idea of paying 'cover' for each of our guests after a $350 room rate, again, annoying.

I had heard good things about the Sportsmen, unfortunately they're already completely booked for when we want to go.

We're also heading to Jaco during this time, and, again looking for a good joint that offers a good room, and is not nickle and dimming you after on the chica fees. Is claritas any good? How about Copacobana? I guess in the case of Jaco, looking for a suite (or 3 comfortable rooms) on the beach.

Welcome any suggestions, and especially current info on who's charging the fee or not?

I have stayed at the Del Rey many tines and SL twice, for now on when i have a buddy coming with me I always stay at the executive properties in SJ, and it is awesome compared to the SL and Del Rey. It doesn't feel like staying at a hotel because it's a private condo only blocks away from all the action. No chica fees and breakfast in the AM made to order. Eric is the owner and he will take great care of you. He will rent you a cell phone if wanted. It comes in handy when trying to make plans with the ladies! I speak from personal experience on this. I'm also staying this labor day weekend from 9/2 to 9/6 with a reservation already completed for Halloween. In Jaco i really enjoyed the Vista Mar suites run by the Casino CoCal hotel. Really nice!!! Links to both are below.

Each of you become a CRT VIP and you don't have to pay the chica fee at Hotel Presidente. They do have a dress code for the chica though - just don't dress like a hooker! As Florida John says, the Executive Suites are your best option if they are not booked up. Labor Day is pretty busy.

It's funny you mentioned the executive properties. We came across that and I was talking with Eric. In the time it took for me to get all the info I needed about the place from Eric, and get my buddies on board and then confirm, etc... both apartments got rented for the duration of the time we'd be in town :x

Disappointing, it looked like a great place.

I also came across the other two links you posted, so, they will fit our needs while in Jaco then?

I thought (a few weeks ago) someone posted that the HDR "elevator fee" had been raised to $11. Can anyone verify this ? :?:

Bigbang,

While in Jaco the Vista Mar is the place to stay. The empty condo units are managed by the Casino CoCal hotel staff. The CoCal hotel is old but clean but the Vista Mar condos are really nice! No chica fee and breakfast provided. You won't regret staying there!

Even for 1 visit it would benefit you greatly to pay the $39/year membership fee. It goes for a full calendar year, not just til December--I don't want to hear you are only coming to CR once. You don't just get hotel discounts but also restaurants, sport fishing ( if you plan this or next visit to do that), our great Monger Map, access to paid-only Forums here etc, etc.
It's a bit late in the day to get the premium quarters you are seeking but neither the Dunn Inn, the Castillo or La Amistad will disappoint especially 3 rooms on the same floor.
BTW there are other hotels mentioned in the discount page that aren't often mentioned but can represent solid value. And if you and your buds truly want to go balls-out, look at the Hotel M--Lord have mercy!
About Jaco: Brother Florida John's mentions are doubtless excellent choices but we have a new Sponsor there in the Hotel Poseidon which as a paid member gets you a discount, is close to the beach and the action at the Beatle Bar and has a great contact here in Thirdworld. A PM to him or his surfshop business located in the hotel can facilitate and get you both the CRT discount and no Chica fee: http://www.thirdworldproductions.org
For all our discounts see this: https://costaricaticas.com/sponsors.php
I always wear a hat and promise to eat it if you don't save enough on your first visit to cover your membership cost. BTW, you can get it in CR by seeing Boyd at the Hotel Dunn Inn.

What if we choose to take the stairs?

Looks like HDR won't really work (just a fall back plan I guess). Of course we'll check out the bar scene there, but, I'm getting the feeling that this place will nickle and dime you more than half of what you pay the chica before you get her up to your room...not fun when the 'other head' is getting impatient.

Thanks for the info. Am I better to rent from 'Vista Mar' themselves, or one of the owners... came across this while using google:

http://www.vacationrentals.com/vacation ... 25176.html

His price seems lower, and, the room does look nice. I assume no matter whom I rent it from, it's still being managed by the Casino CoCal hotel staff?

I have been seriously debating to get the VIP membership. You can pay through paypal if I read correctly somewhere? How discreet is the envelope the card is mailed in? More importantly though... no way, no how, do I want my 'bigbang' alias to be associated with my real name. Having to pay by credit card (even through paypal) does form that link -- obviously I don't have a credit card with 'bigbang' as the name on it. I might just have to do a cash deal and pick it up from Boyd once in town I guess...then again I miss out on a month of VIP information that could likely help me better prepare...choices... choices...

Do you have any idea on the rates for Hotel M? Doesn't look like they have suites there, but, the rooms look pretty damn nice though. I assume no Chica fee there?

Looking at Hotel Poseidon right now... what's the difference between a premium and standard room? Unfortunately I don't see any suites. We definitely have a preference for suites just cuz we're going to need the space (and multiple bedrooms) to entertain our guests... And a private Jacuzzi or two can be quite useful...

At any rate guys, thanks for all your advice. Haven't booked anything yet, but, plan on doing so before the end of this week... then I'm going to have to start researching things to do when not mongering...

Regular rates are posted on the website http://www.hotelmcostarica.com/rooms.asp.

The rooms aren't suites per se, but all are very nicely done rooms with every amenity, much nicer than what you'll see at other venues.

There is no chica fee. Chicas are NOT available onsite like at HDR or SL, but you can bring your own or partake of the talent that shows up for one of the regularly scheduled Hotel M private parties.

There are 10 rooms at M. Rooms #1 and #2 (Master and Marquis) are the best. They can be combined into one 2 bedroom suite if you choose. After these 2, I like #3, #9, #6. Pretty much any room is fine (except for #7, stay away from that one unless the hotel is full).

M has a nice little bar with pricey drinks.

M is some distance away from the Gulch, close to the Mall San Pedro, about a 10 minute taxi ride.

Join CRT. You'll make up the fee in discounts during the first trip, especially if you stay with a sponsor. And you will find lots of detailed info about M and other venues in the VIP sections, plus you can chat in realtime with other CRT VIPs.

Admin1 takes privacy very seriously--the cards are mailed discreetly and billed even more so. No danger of linking your true name to your online persona--unless you talk about it. For the ultimate in pricey discretion, look to our Sponsor The Alibi Network--they promise its bullet-proof privacy for visits, etc.You can get a head start on the info base by reading and absorbing Brother Orange's Costa Rica for Dummies in the Newbie Forum available to all (it's Thread # 16357). Thirdworld can provide you all the info you need on the Hotel Poseidon but also "Search" here for Clarita's Beach Hotel--downscale a bit but thoroughly raucous.

BigBang, If you are looking for a suite, I think the Vista Mar will be the way to go. Have heard nothing but good things about them. Next to no daytime action in Jaco these days, so if ya want something in the day arrange it at night. The Bohio bar is horrible for working girls these days. Nothing but gutter. Get in touch while you are here and maybe we'll meet up for a drink...

Just make sure you guys dont spend all your money, because you will most likely be booking your return trip back to CR on the plane ride back to the States in about a month or two, just sayin
