Arrived in CR yesterday afternoon. Couple of quick observations
1. I didn’t find a banco de San Jose branch at the airport. I exited the airport, walked across the street to the garage, walked up and found the overpass leading to the departing gates, but I never saw a bank branch. I did see an ATM housed within a small glass room. Is that to what everyone is referring?
2. You guys were right about the driving in this country. The taxi ride from the airport was “exciting.†Also, I made the mistake of letting one of guys who kind of looked like a sky cap get me taxi. He had an official looking uniform and clip board and a walkie talkie, so I assumed it he was in some official capacity. The car the called was a plain white sedan with no markings and no meter. The price was the same as everyone else I suspect ($25), but I was a little nervous. Then I saw how traffic works over here and I found something else to worry about.
3. The courtyard rooms at the SL are really adjacent to the bar, so it’s super noisy. There’s basically a party 13 hour party from 11am to 12am. Had I known that, I would have taken a room in another area of the hotel. The room is decent though.
Day 1 - I was able to make it in and out of the SL without succumbing to temptation (of which there was plenty). After getting some food I went out to the Del Rey. Not quite what I expected. I’ve never seen a bar/casino setup like that. I ended up playing poker for several hours. Their room is nice, big comfy executive chairs for the players, and the table felt looked brand new. One odd spot, they didn’t have auto-shufflers at the table, the had an extra dealer in seat one shuffling after each hand. I wonder why they do that, it wastes a playing spot.
Around 2:30am I decided I was done with letting the dealer bad beat me into submission (fun game though). I finally decided to activity check out the chica scene. There were still lots of girls even at that hour. It was a little challenging to check out the scene without accidentally making eye contact and inadvertently starting an interview However, my gut was registering a jaded vibe from more than 90% of them. One of them was even SUPER aggressive. She interrupted a order I was trying to place with the bartender and asked me what I was doing. I told her having a drink. She asked what else. I said nothing right now. She said, no we go now. I reiterated, no, I’m not going anywhere right now, and she practically yelled “No, we go now!†I think not.
By 3:00am I was a little drunk and very tired and about to give up and just settle with the hottest looking hard core pro available. Then, while standing by the black jack tables, I spied a gorgeous little girl walking to the bar with a friend. She had long back hair below the waist and a very pretty face. I wasn’t getting the same vibe from her at all. I walked after them to get a better look, but lost them before I could catch up. However, the Blue Marlin isn’t that big, so ended up passing them again. This time I definitely made eye contact. They came over and introduced themselves. The friend of the girl in whom I was interested started the conversation as I think her English was better. Eventually I got it across that I was interested in her friend. *Rookie move alert*. I couldn’t think of a tactful way of negotiating anything, I basically asked what was next. The girl said “vamos.†So we caught a cab back to SL without talking price, what was going to be involved, nothing. I KNEW that I was supposed to be asking all these questions, but for some reason couldn’t articulate. Finally, in the room I asked quanto. She replied cien por an hora. I didn’t bother to negotiate, since if I was going to do that I should have done it back in the bar.
I think I got lucky here folks. This girl was super sweet and down for whatever. I’m taking cowgirl, reverse cowgirl, missionary, doggy, seated, all over the bed, multiple bj sin condom and a 69. Eventually I was worn out after about 40 minutes of playing around. Even after all that, she said there was still 20 minutes left, so we cuddled up on the bed watching Spanish MTV, had a beer, and talked about her and her life through her broken English and my broken Spanish. (23, from Nicaragua, 22 month old daughter.) Very pleasant experience. I’m wondering if I’ve just been spoiled for future ladies or if I can expect more of the same if I trust my gut when I’m doing the interview.
Well, it’s day 2 now and I’m off to quepos in a couple hours. After that I’ll visit Jaco and then return to SJ for a couple days. Thanks for all the advise thus far. Wish me luck for the rest of the stay.
