I read somewhere (ISG I think) that you can bring stuff like cell-phones, I-Pads etc. to sell here. Sort of helps with expenses, you know. Anyone know if this is a good idea, and how you would go about selling them?

Keeper,
Welcome to the board. And that's a heck of a 1st post.

IMO, if you need to bring small items to sell - just to help with your vacation expenses, then you might want to wait a little longer and save some more money for your trip. Personally, I wouldn't recommend doing this, but as always YMMV.

I hope you plan on selling to gringos, and I certainly wouldn't go about it like the cigar guy in front of HDR....

Speaking of, (cause I've walked past and seen it with my own eyes)

Guy's who buy $50 cigars in front of the Rey never think to themselves that if a tico really had a box of $50 cigars he would've been hit over the head and robbed 10 minutes ago..

I agree with MG, esp if this is your first trip. Maybe you should do some recon then tell us what you think...

Sell stuff to who? Most Ticos can't afford them, and gringos won't buy since they can get it in the US for less.

You plan on standing in front of Del Rey with the scumbags?

 I'll assume you are serious, I would not plan on this as a serious venture.

If you bring in more than one of anything and/or the stuff is brand-new in a box, Customs here might take an active interest in you; if there's only one of each and/or it's obviously used, as the Brothers said, who you gonna sell to? Did those wizards at ISG or wherever mention a sales outlet, or were you expected to find out for yourself?

I bring one or two lap tops each and every trip....advertise on Craig's List before each trip and have sold each and every "extra" one I have brought with me....each and every trip. Profit is over $100.00 per lap top. Thus far, never even been contacted by a peckerwood from the US of A. (They got a sillyass club and think they got everything under control like all ex-pat groups....dumbfucks....).....and remain in contact via Yahoo! or MSN or SKYPE with 2/3 of those that have purchased. Good Luck on defraying costs....it CAN and IS done....

I wouldn't venture into any type of sales unless you know what you are doing. S1 has a system and experience.

http://www.usenext.com

some people consider "netbooks" laptops. Do you? If not....consult ebay...anything with a dual core (pentium...not the AMD crud) processor and anything over 1gig of Ram (with XP) is more than enough....Vista or 7? Ya need 4gig or better.

RAM....it's the ManHandler....

Would Brother Steven1 explicate further on why he considers the company that keeps Intel honest* (AMD) is, and I quote, "CRUD"? Imagine a world without them or ARM. Wanna pay $1000 for a minimal laptop? *[ well, OK, Intel is semi-honest--they've been successfully sued by the Justice Department how many times? And just recently had to disgorge how much in ill-gotten profits for buying market share?]. But if you swoon at the name "Intel", God loves you and I'm rather fond of you myself.
Brother Dean --If you follow through with that plan, I freakin' guarantee you will be mobbed and perhaps have to flee for your mortal life. Tread lightly and never underestimate the Gringo hunger for a late-night cheese-steak. No joke.

...they are better off discontinuing all of their products. AMD feels like Britney Spears nowadays.

AMD is like Mac....it's a novelty item. Nothing more and nothing less....

Too, AMD don't keep nobody honest just like SUN don't. Many suggested that the European suit againt William would at least cause a dent into Williams' products. All it did was confuse the market place, web developers, and home users. Most home users have no clue what JAVA is and the fact it requires updating, as an example. Too, most people have no clue the way Adobe Flash keeps track of where you go and what you do with your computer on the internet. AMD is not only crud....it sux....*shrug*

One can purchase, as an example, a USED DELL D600 for around $200 these days and it will do everything a guy wants it to and more....it's keen advantage is the fact one don't got a ton of dough tied up in the unit and won't die if it's dropped or the chica spills beer on the keyboard as she is given access to loverboys' CRT account...... :P :P 8)

AMD is crud?
Far from it. The two companies offer virtually the same product; with AMD selling theirs at usually a noticeably lower price.

You sound like one of them broken record GM commercials going on and on about how they have been around for XX years so they just have to be the right choice.
