Me and 4 newbies will be in CR August 26th through the 30th to celebrate a B-day and recent emancipation (divorce).
One of the newbies has his mind set on Jaco for three days.:?: None of us have ever been to Jaco but I haven't heard a whole lot of positive comments on the place. Our primary reason for coming to CR is to monger, party and see new stuff, we don't fish or surf.
Im hoping some of the brothers can share their thoughts and experiences on Jaco Vs. San Jose and how long we should stay, or is Jaco even worth visiting.

As far as Jaco entertainment:
Whats the Chica Ratio and going rate for a ST; are their any places that compare to the DelRey or SL?
What time does the action start?
Are their any MP's or other diversions during the day?
IS the beach really that Sh.tty?

Let me know what youn think :D

I've been to Jaco a few times. The Beatle Bar is the main spot for p4p chicas, with a few other smaller spots like Monkey Bar. BB has a lot of good talent and prices are comparable with HDR. I think it opens at 6 pm. It's a fun spot to party. Chicas there are very aggressive. There is not much daytime action to speak of. The Copacabana sometimes has girls hanging around the pool, but that's about it.
Yes, the beach really is that shitty. Literally. There are signs here and there warning of contaminated water. Also keep in mind that you are going during rainy season, so you may never see the sun.
My opinion would be to hit Jaco for a night, just to do it, and get your ass back to San Jose. Interbus will take you door to door round trip for @$60/person. Make sure you book a chica friendly hotel.

I like Jaco for what it is but would steer you and your party away from there. If you do go, look at Clarita's Beach Hotel. If one in your party is all that hip on the place, tell him to come down on his own and check it out--why make 3 other guys miserable? Even if that's the guy celebrating Independence Day.

Jaco is a filthy dump. It's like 95 degrees and 100% humidity all day and night. I hope you like to shower.

As for girls, it's nothing compared to San Jose. There is little variety, and pretty much one venue to shop (Beattle Bar). So if you don't like their prices or looks, you are shit out of luck.

Good information. I think were leaning towards taking a day trip to Jaco just to check it out.

IMO, since your friend has a hard-on for Jaco, just make your reservations ahead of time for the 3 days. But make sure you understand the hotel's cancellation policy up front. Then, tell him that you want to spend the first couple of nights in SJO before going to Jaco. Once he gets a taste of SJO, I got a feeling that HE'LL TELL YOU to cancel the Jaco reservations! Either that, or just have him read Orange's post in this thread. That should eliminate any doubts! Have a good trip!

I've been to the Beatle Bar many times over the past 4 years, and as recently as this past February. I have always been able to find something I liked at a decent price (for costa rica) If you have a Dominicana sweet tooth like I do you should be able to satisfy your desires no problem. Having to babysit 4 newbies...well good luck with that...expect some chica drama!

The beach is pretty rancid compared to others in Costa Rica but if you have wheels you can find some great stretches of beach further south. I would recommend Playa Esterillos Este and Oeste, which I just discovered this past trip. Bring a chica if you can.

If none of you fish or surf, and just want to monger, then forget Jaco and just stay in San Jose. If you just want to hang out on the beach, well, there are far better beaches than Jaco. Go to one of those for a daytrip, then get your asses back to San Jose for the night.

Jaco is mainly for those who fish and/or surf (though mostly fish) and want easily accessible hookers. The gilrs there know that their customers are mostly guys paying thousands of dollars for fishing trips, these guys gladly pay whatever the girls ask for wirthout a second thought.

Yes, Jaco is fun and Hermosa is one of the best beach breaks in the whole world. Plenty of hot chicks to bang @ the Beatle bar. I say go check it out if you have never been. I like the drive its pretty scenic. However if all you want to do is bang chicks stay in SJ.

Here’s what I suggest:

OK, you arrive August 26 and depart August 30. I would spend the night of Thursday the 26th in San Jose and then wake up on Friday the 27th and go to Jaco and check in to the Copacabana.

Bring a really good bottle of rum and your best sweat proof attire and hang at the Copa pool bar that afternoon, then shower and go eat dinner at the Tsunami Sushi.

Go get yourself a big dose of the Beetle Bar that night. Wake the next day and go do something besides up and down, in and out. I suggest taking an ATV tour (or zip-line) and then head back to San Jose that afternoon. Everyone is built different, and if all you want is a cultural exchange with a working girl, then head back to San Jose that morning.

But, if you want some other type of stimulus, you can make an arrangement with the Copa to hold your luggage and let you shower after your ATV ride and then head back to San Jose that Saturday the 28th (driving against the San Jose traffic heading to Jaco for the weekend). This should put you back to San Jose early to late afternoon. Yes this is very doable because of the new toll-road from San Jose to Jaco. Note: I would not plan my trip where I had to drive from Jaco to San Jose on a Sunday as the traffic can really suck at this time.

You’re now back in San Jose for a Saturday happy hour and night and all the good stuff the gulch has to offer.

Sunday the 29th, if it's not raining, I would go play golf at Valle del Sol that morning before the likely afternoon August rain. If you are not a golfer or do not need/want some type of stimulus other than another chica, go to the Del Rey for a morning double espresso and check out the Sunday morning shift at the Del Rey. Some may be surprised at the gem or two to be found at the Del Rey at that hour. I’m not talking about some left-over’s from Saturday night, but a fresh well rested little darling that works those mornings. There’s not the elbow to elbow chicas at that hour, but I have had some outstanding sessions at that hour. YMMV, but I’ve had some good mpg at this specific time.

I know there are a lot of guys here that don’t care for Jaco and I completely understand that. As for me, I like the break from the San Jose gulch and personally enjoy the como-esta that Jaco offers. Then again, I generally have a good time wherever I travel.

This is just my dos colones which at the current exchange rate ain’t worth much. If you need help with a driver and/or reservations, drop me a PM and I will be happy to point you in a good direction.

Hi all

Just signed up for VIP card and looking forward to my 2nd trip to CR in December, a week long trip. Plan to check out Jaco for 2 nights mid week. (don't want to interrupt the weekend action in the gulch)

What's currently the best mongering hotel in Jaco? Not so much worried about price as much as convenience and action.

thanks in advance.

Best in what way? We're here to help each other but some parameters are necessary. That said, check this recent Thread:

Thanks Jazzbo

Clarita got good reviews on Tripadvisor as well, so I think I'll give that spot a try.
