Post subject:  My First Costa Rica Trip is Next Week.....

I've just recently discovered this website just in time for my upcoming Male Fantasy Getaway and I've digested a lot of helpful information.

Having just solidified the most important part of my upcoming trip, reserving comfortable seats (NOT in the middle of the row) on my airline reservation, the next part I would like to sew up is a place to stay.

I've read many reviews of many hotels in the Gulch area so far and I've pretty much narrowed down my choices, since I want to be in the middle of the mix. But, the dilemma I'm faced with is wanting to have someplace confirmed for, at least, the first night, but not wanting to commit for much longer, in case I find some place better to stay once I get there.

And two other things I'm wondering about, since I haven't really read too much about these other two topics here.

What about the places to EAT when you're there?

Any suggestions?

Fancy fare isn't really necessary, but I don't want to take a chance eating food that's questionable. Nothing like getting sick to your stomach to f#ck up the rest of your vacation, know what I mean?

And, lastly, while I'm in town what other diversionary activities can I partake in before the sun goes down? Like taking a tour or doing some sightseeing.

Any helpful info would be appreciated.

Having been to Rio several times and enjoying it immensely (BEFORE the U.S. dollar there went in the tank and they acquired the 2016 Summer Olympics, that is), I'm hoping CR can come close.

check hotel and restaurant sections on the board. as far as coming close to rio. that would be the wrong mind set to have. cr is not rio. but it aint bismark or black river falls either. enjoy it for what it is and you will be a repeat customer in no time. remember read the board before the brothers give you some good old smack talk.

You're going next week & you don't have your room booked?

I suggest you get on the horn & call Hotel Castillo or Dunn Inn. SL is likely booked & La Amistad may be as well. Also try the Freebird.

I concur with El O about Dunn Inn. I have stayed there four times already this year and it has been my home away from home. As for food, I recommend the Dunn, SL for Steaks (Ribeye and NY Strip) and La Amistad...also Cafe Mundo is close by and great...as for sightseeing..well, most of my sightseeing resembles that of a gynecology textbook..so in that case, Pamela, Karen, Gina, Monica, Allie....:)

Have a good trip,
CH

That was my first thought also. Why would you have a flight booked for next week and not yet have a place to stay. Were you planning to sleep under the stars? Get on it and get on it fast. You may wind up getting less than you hoped for, and that will be on you, not Costa Rica.

By coincidence, I had a couple of those in mind. I don't need a luxury suite but I don't want something rock bottom like the Hotel Johnson either.

Yeah, I know. I'm working on it.
I'll have some feedback today.

Here's the vital info you need to thrive in CR:
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=16357
As far as hotels go, we have 2 others worth mentioning: Hotel Inca Real (moderate price) and Hotel Tiquicia (budget). For restaurants for beef try Donde Carlos or La Esquina de Buenos Aires. All these are CRT Sponsors giving discount to CRT VIPs. The other restaurants listed in the discount listings are equally good for their cuisines. The $39/year cost is easily covered by these and other discounts. This membership is available in CR via Brother BKTuna at the Dunn Inn.
Best single place to be is the Dunn Inn or SL Happy Hours--great companionship and cheaper booze-what's not to like? For day trip info, "Search" Brother Prolijo's posts here--he's DA BOMB.

Like you said, that was vital info and helps out the plan.
Thanks.

Contrary to popular belief, there are plenty of rooms available right now in the Gulch area, even though it may appear to be last minute.

I'm sorting out the pros & cons of each and will confirm with one of them shortly.

Still not sure if I should reserve a room for my entire stay right now or just for a couple of nights until I get there, see the area and what the other places are like.
Is it a good location? Are the rooms comfortable at night? Etc.

LT (don't take the initials the wrong way),

The hotels that are CRT sponsors and they are located near all the action. Just pick one and go for it. Comfortable at night? You are not going to a Matress & Bedding Convention, more like a pu*sy Telethon, worry about who you have with you in that room (negotiation, lock things up, etc). I can tell you the Dunn Inn and La Amistad are very comfortable. Join VIP will get you discounts, but that is up to you.
