Hey Guys I just signed up for the board and waiting for my VIP to go through... But in the mean time I am planning a trip to CR July 19 to the 26th. Right now I was looking at heading down to Joco beach and staying at the Copacabana, but after reading a lot of the post I was thinking of staying at the SL. Right now I plan on being lazy and resting up from work during the day (maybe a ATV and zip line trip) and active at night. I am traveling solo so if any members are going to be visting during that time frame let me know and I will but you a beer....

+1 This won't be you're only time--just the first time. You have plenty of time on a future visit to visit the dubious pleasures of Jaco.

For those of you with long time-lines--If you're thinking of booking the Dunn Inn after their new lounge/sportsbar/ casino opens in Sept.-Oct., you might want to nail those dates sooner--It will rival the SL in popularity, I sincerely believe.

Depends on what you want:

Beach? (Jaco) Or beach not important? (SJ)

Girls? (SJ over Jaco in the general case) Or girls not important? (Stay at home)

You can gamble, drink, and eat in both SJ and Jaco. But in general, for a newbie, I recommend SJ. SJ has a wider selection of everything other than beach. Whichever you go, just keep your wits about you and read up on the board about the pitfalls as well so you can avoid them - but don't be paranoid - and have a great time!

well....that is not 100% true because if you are there when Cujo'S is there you will be constantly catching the aroma of human fecal matter all over the bar area....because it is all on his hands, his body, and his male member because his preferred orifice of entry is the anus of the chica.....

Don't say you were not forwarned......I know....been there and that SHIT stunk to high heaven...... :P :P :P

RicoGuapo got it right. My first trip ever to Costa Rica was spent with 4 days in Jaco first, then the latter 3 days in SJO. Although I love Jaco, I wouldn't spend more than a day/night there on your first visit. If you find you like it, as I did, you can do Jaco at a later date. SJO gets another vote from Dapanz1.

Agreed with everything said here.

Let me throw in a little twist. There's a cab driver at the SL named "El Gato". Get to know him. I don't know if he offers it to everyone, but he offered me and my buddy a one day trip to Jaco where we'd see the Gators, several sights and end up at a hotel pool on the beach with several women. We would get back before 5pm. I didn't take him up on the offer, but if you really need the beach, it sounded good. Personally, I find simply staying at the SL to be both relaxing and fun.

Play it loose, read the board, get there and enjoy the show...

SJ is more fun wide variety than Jaco. Jaco is kinda gehetto and the beach is not much to write home about. If you really want beach go further south.
