Coming to Costa Rica in August with five friends. Unfortunately, we only have three days and are staying in Jaco for all three, we are actually going to fish two of the days. Anyway a few questions:

Is August a good time to come for the ticas or will it be slim pickins?
We are staying at the Vista Mar condos, is it good?
Any recommendations for fishing charters?
We are looking to all have ticas back to the condo for the whole night and possibly trade off, is this possible and what would be a reasonable price per girl?
Also, any tips as to where to eat, play etc. in Jaco is greatly appreciated. Sorry about all the questions, just want to get everything lined up in advance, thanks again

Welcome to CRT, Brother LouieP!

There are quite a few members here who are very knowledgable about Jaco (I'm not one), however from what I've heard I believe August is slow in Jaco -- it's high season there now.

By the way, a word to the wise: I noticed your use of "tica" a couple of times in your post, apparently as a euphemism for "working girl" or "whore". It actually means "woman of Costa Rican nationality". Hopefully you're open to working girls from Nicaragua, Colombia, Honduras, etc. as well as Ticas! ;)

So at that time of year does that mean there will be little to no ladies to find, or just fewer than normal? Don't want to waste a trip but August is the only time that fits all of our schedules. Thanks again

I wouldn't worry about that time frame as much as I would knowing I was going to be in Jaco. If you wants girls and a party atmosphere, go to San Jose....

For fishing charters, we have 3 Sponsors on the Pacific side--look up the VIP Discounts page. Pink snapper fishing at the Beatle Bar or use the "Search" function here. Our resident game fishing expert is Brother Mucho Gusto--try a PM to him. It may be slow (depending on what you are looking for) but it never stops. A little game and a little Spanish to qualify--y'all will do fine for a first trip. After this solo or with buds--most def' try SJO. What's your hotel? Poseidon and Canciones del Mar have been mentioned favorably here but also Clarita's Beach Hotel can be fun.

Welcome to CRT. I think I'm one few here at CRT that likes Jaco but you are going at the wrong time of year. I was there at the end of August 2 years ago and it sucked. Non stop rain and every thing was dead. All my trips have been in May and it was a night and day difference. Only a hand full of girls at the BB. A lot of the non monger activities we planed on doing were canceled due to the weather. all we did was eat, drink and fu*k for 4 days straight. Come to think of it wasn't that bad after all. Have fun....

I like to think I'm occupying the middle ground on this Jaco thing--have gone a few times and enjoyed myself, but see its severe shortcomings too. Kinda like the love or hate thing about the HDR. I still believe one should experience Jaco just to see each side's POV. Not busting here Brother Orange but did you despise Jaco the first time you went, or did the loathing grow?

If you are going with several friends, I recommend Canciones Del Mar hotel. Get Room 9 for 2 of you, and additional rooms for the rest. You will have fun. No doubt there will be at least some girl action available at Beatle Bar and maybe elsewhere.

To back up brother MH...you really need to understand that "Tica" does not mean "Wh*re".

Jaco...Love it or....Hate it. For those of you that love it...My apologies. I've only been once and that was for me once too often. I went fishing out of Los Suenos or whatever they call it, last January. Los Suenos is the multimillion dollar resort built in the shadow of Jaco's poverty. The fishing was great but I found Jaco depressing, dirty and just plain sad.

August is not going to be the best time for fishing. In fact I'm pretty sure you are going to find August fishing a waste of your time but hey who knows you may just like the atmosphere more than catching fish. I think right now is about the peak time of the year. When I went in Jan 09 we caught 3 sails and 3 or 4 dolphin (Mahi). The Hatteras I chartered ran me $1600 for the day. I later learned I could have gone out of Quepos for $1200. Although they were building a new marina similar to the one in Los Suenos so the prices in all likelihood have gone up there too.

My advice book a single day fishing you and your buddy's take a change of clothes and take loads of pics wearing different clothes. That way it will look like you went more than once. That'll give you an extra day in San Jose and you can try your luck with the pink snapper.

I'm KenLee and that my dos centos.
