im going to visit my vry first trip ( and many more to come ) to San Jose. i will be in SJ from 1/28 to 2/1 & i will be staying at Hotel Morazan. here my my question is to all of you guys: i dont speak & understand spanish at all. im just wondering , is that gonna be a big problem in San Jose to find nice chica ? or is there any other alternate. please help. i appreciate |

Go to Barnes and Noble, or preferrably a small bookstore and get yourself a pocket sized spanish vocabluary and phrase book and put it in your back pocket. this will also teach you not to have anything else back there, since all the other goods, wallet id, keys will need to always be in the front pockets. Head to the local happy hours and practice your spanish. just remember usually they are laughing with you, not at ya. Pura vida

Quell the panic, Brother Pantagon. You'll find the phrase book handy (any one will do) as a kind of hunt-and-peck method. I don't speak Spanish either and not only did I get by OK in the usual venues, I had a grand old time at a big dancehall. Partied with 2 middle-aged Tico couples. It's all about attitude anyway and attitude will carry you through better when you do have some Spanish. Your worry is authentic but needless--trust me: by your second trip (or second day on this one), you'll wonder what your concern was, |

Spanish is not necessary, but.... I think knowing spanish can make your trip more enjoyable. |

You've got 3 days, and at least a 2-3 hour flight or more. In that time, you can learn enough of the basic words, numbers and phrases to get by for your 1st trip. You don't have to be fluent, but a few simple words and phrases should get you started. And learn your numbers. That's important! Otherwise, like the guys have said - get a small Spanish phrase book, and many of the chica's will be more than happy to help you learn! Enjoy your trip. MG

I bought a bootleg copy of Rosetta Stone for Latin American Spanish from some dude on craigslist. All 5 levels for $120, usually $700. I'm still on level 1. I haven't gotten to the section where they teach you how to purchase pu*sy from a hooker yet. |

I have no idea where this thing comes from that you have to speak Spanish to get by in CR. Sure it helps to speak Spanish. But I have found that more than half of the chicas speak enough English that you can have very good conversations. Their grammer is lousey but you can understand it. They watch American TV, listen to American music, and they know who most of their clients are. They even understand American cultural references. As for most the other half, between your poor Spanish and their poor English you can get by. Just know the basic necessary Spanish phrases. Generally the more Spanish you give them , the more English they give you. As for the few that speak no English at all, if you really want them, just say," fookie, fookie, suckie, suckie." Then they'll say "Si, fookie, fookie, suckie, suckie." That's a universal language. Everyone knows what it means. Of course you better know their numbers, especially 1 to 10 and 60, 80, and 100. Over the long haul you should learn Spanish. But for short trips you barely need it at all. |

My best friend went in Nov, no Spanish at all, 2 chicas a day. He did fine. Speaking Spanish, beneficial yes, necessary no.Dean |

It’s better if you have some knowledge, but you will be fine without any Spanish. If fact, most mongers know very little Spanish (even those who claim otherwise) and they do just fine. |

My first trip April 2009 I knew very little spanish and had a blast. My second trip Jan 2010 I had been using Pimsluer for about 3 weeks and was at least able to converse somewhat comfortably but I understood more than I could speak. I did enjoy the negotiations more and got what I wanted with little problem, also made for more enjoyable sessions. I put the lessions on my Ipod and listen to them while driving. Next trip to Cancun & Cuba May 2010 and I should be somewhat fluent.... I hope. |
