As long as they were not made on your color printer they will accept them. I have no problem exchanging $100 or $50 :P :P :P :P :P

I would make sure there are no tares or missing corners off them. I have had issues with smaller bills at BCR offices in town over this. Best part was their ATM gave them to me.

I have found it easier to just use my ATM card to get money while in town. There are a few atms up on the upper level of the airport.

The CB 100,s are no good ,and so are ripped or worn C-notes
Sure you can try and pass them to a chica ... but she will hunt you down :x :x
Never had a problem with the nice crisp bills
To the post above... I always used the good ATMs and the fees did add up and made me go over budget
I bring what I plan to spend ... change it upstairs at SJO and I am done
With all that great or not so great wisdom .... I still hit the ATM once or twice
BTW when I used ATM's all the time I went to the same bank every time and kept all the slips just in case

Unless you're planning to only spend $500 i don't see how you can change it all at the airport and be done.

All banks will only exchange $500 worth of colones at any given time. I believe it must be law, because i've never seen a bank that did not do this.

I doubt it is a law. If it is the branch of Scotia bank I use violates the law regularly as I have frequently exchanged over $500.00 for colones. A couple of times I did it as BAC-San Jose also. Perhaps the national banks have some restriction but it would seem the private banks do not.

Not true (or not enforced), I've exchanged up to 1200 USD to colones at the airport bank and other banks in the gulch many times.

For the last year I have not found a single bank that would exchange more than $500 at a time. This includes Scotiabank, BCR, Banco San Jose, Citi, and HSBC.

I don't know how you guys are doing it, maybe because you have an account at those banks?

I don't, me and wingman always hit the airport bank upon arrival and exchange a grand apiece, believe that's a BAC bank? Have also done it at the bank on the corner across from Morazan.

The banks across from the Morazan are BCR SE corner and BN North side of the street 25 meters west. Both are National banks so it is obvious there is no such law as both public and private banks are exchanging amounts far in excess of $500 for colones.

I have never exchanged money at those locations, but i've exchanged money all over San Jose, but mostly in the Escazu and Santa Ana area. I've exchanged money more than 100 times in the last year, primarily because of the $500 limit. I have never once been allowed to exchange more than $500 at a time, and nobody has given me a satisfactory answer as to why.

Guess you are not going to get an explanation here as no one else seems to be having the problem. Best to speak to the branch manager where you bank. It also helps to bank at the same branch and get to know the people and they get to know you.

You have a sexual addiction. You should check in to the same clinic Tiger's at to get some help before it's too late. :P
