Howdy again,

I have a problem, which may amuse some; but I would like some advice handling prior to any Costa Rica visit.

In order to help me, I'm going to have to reveal my real name here in the message boards, as that is the crux of my problem.

My real name is Oscar Arias...

Those of you who have even a cursory knowledge of Costa Rica politics will instantly see what my problem is...

Am I going to get hassled by Immigration, police, hotel staff, girls?

No, I'm not related to "El Presidente". Nor was I named after him, as he was not a famous person when I was born. Heck, I only speak middling Spanish at best.

....of course I COULD play it up with the chicas... if that would get me somewhere..


At any rate, any advice or suggestions would be appreciated!

Nobody will care. Some may get a chuckle out of it. As for the girls......as long as you have money, they don't care what your name is.

Just carry a copy of your passport every where you go, should provide some laughs, name drop and use it as back up Really, can't see any problems, just a few eyebrows raised when you clear immigration.

Ninja: You should be able to get last minute restaurant reservations anywhere. I've seen this happen with a guy who shared a last name with a famous NFL quarterback. Enjoy it.

You should be able to get GREAT prices from the chica's with a name like that. Just show them your ID and they'll probably phuck you for free, just so they can say that they phucked El Presidente! If nothing else, it'll break the ice, and you'll get her to laugh. And I'm sure she'll call over all her friends to look at your ID!

Yeah, I doubt that I will have any problems. Besides, my middle name is different than any of the other ten words that make up his name!


I'll try the "I'm El Presidente" routine when I get there on a couple of the girls and I'll let you know how well that worked...

Looking forward to the trip, I've put in my vacation request. Once that's approved it's time to book my tix!
