Howdy,

I've been a perpetual tourist to Thailand for over a decade, and am considering going to CR for a short exploratory mission around May/June this year, with an eye to making Costa Rica my off-year destination.

Just wanting to attempt to compare apples to apples with boardies that have been to both.

I'll probably have some follow up questions to those members. :D

Thanks in advance for any and all information!

pretty certain this has been covered before, just search and results will pop-up.

in short, different strokes for different folks, each has pros/cons. really, only way to find out what works for you (and not others) is get yourself to CR for a week and enjoy the ladies first hand. i am pretty certain it will be time well spent.

CR vs. Thailand ? Two TOTALLY different animals. Lots of info on this board comparing the two. Plenty of pu$$y in both locations, but other than that - completely different.

LOL! What Thai language skills?!?

I think I learned 5 words in Thai in all my trips...

I'd say my Spanish reading level is at about 90% comprehension.

In Spain (particularly in the area where my parents are from) I understand about 75% or better of what is spoken.

I'm not sure what it will be like in Costa Rica as my comprehension of what is said by Mexicans drops to 50%. They speak TOO FAST and use funny words. I'm guessing that CR Spanish is closer to Mexican than Castillian.

Understanding is one thing, communicating back I'll have some problems. My speaking skill is probably around 25% at best. I think that is mainly a self-confidence issue combined with lack of practice.

I took a 2 week mongering trip to Havana back in '99. Nobody I met spoke a significant amount of English, but I managed to survive. Hopefully that's enough to get by in CR.

Havnt been to Thailand, but I believe its about 10,000 miles from Miami where San Jose is about 1,000 miles. Huge difference. Air fare costs too are a bit more extreme I would imagine. There's no way I'd do a trip this far unless it was in a Concord. pu*sy is pu*sy.

If you have the money to get there, Thailand hands down.

Zunbake,
Have you ever been to Thailand? YMMV and all, but this remark couldn't be further from the truth.

If you are talking about anal (no Butt), you are definitely barking up a wrong tree as, in my experience, most girls in Thailand will do anal. If you are talking about size and dimension, Thailand will match anywhere with the selection and service.

If an overview, my vote goes to Thailand hands down.

Once again, 10 posts from 10 people whom have never been to Thailand

They are in no way alike. Sure CR can be fun, but the magnitude of it is the equivalent of sitting in the beer garden or thermae in Bangkok and in comparison to LOS some very low end massage places that serve their purpose.

Thats about the gist of it.

The attitudes are miles apart. While enough speak decent english, some spanish will probably up the experience a bit.

But overall I find the scene in San Jose somewhat a less fun version of Bangkok's FREELANCE scene, without the gogo's, soapie's, and disco's. Plus more fat chicks.

I agree with your statement except the one above. I have been twice over the past two years and Mucho Gusto has been, I believe. I do not know about the others. Perhaps, you should check your facts before you attack.

Neon ninja, you should search in the " Trip reports and information from around the world" section. Search for comparison between CR and Pattaya.

A few differences I see are:

1. San Jose is a run down place. Pattaya/Phuket are charming. Lots more to do cheaply.
2. Crime is higher in SJ. Nothing like tourist police to keep order.
3. Easy to avoid "ladyboys" in CR.
4. Hotels about 10 to 20% more expensive in CR. Food too can cost more.
5. Cheaper LT/ST prices in Thailand. More uniform prices every where.
6. No bar fines in CR as the girls in the bars are independent and so negotiation is very important. Spanish speaking skills help a lot here. But expect to pay $50 to $80 per hour (generally).
7. The massage parlor girls have fixed rates in CR and are usually cheaper than the independents. Tipping is expected and is a touchy subjet with mongers. To each his own.
8. Much smaller number of girls working but more than enough in San Jose. Resort areas tend to be dry or take your own from San Jose or very expensive escort types only available.
9. Mongers are predominantly Amrican in CR and chances of hooking up with a wingman is higher. Lots of good advice from ex-pats.
10. Hard to find really good massages in CR. No soapies. Harder to find the sex variations you may like.

These are the differences I find as a monger who has visited Thailand 5 times and CR 3 times. No knowledge of Spanish and just a world mongering back ground. No specialization in any one country.

Hope this helps.

You wrote/posted as I was writing still... Look at the time.
As far as MG goes; I know he has been there, and his post doesn't even really take a side.

Don't get your panties all in a bunch, it was all meant to be taken in gist

Thanks Dave and Mucho:

Sounds like I should check it out one day, but 20 plus hours on a plane sounds too much for me to deal with, but maybe one day.
