Post subject: | My first trip coming up.... |
Gentlemen, First off I'd like to say this is one of the best websites I've ever been to! Lots of good info here. I hope to contribute some day. Ok, so my virgin trip to CR is coming up Jan 18th - 28th. Originally I was only going for 3 days for work training, but I told my work that I was going to take 7 more days of vacation time to "experience" CR. They agreed to pay for my hotel for the entire ten days out of generosity for all of my hard work. Here's the problem...I will be staying at the Allegro Papagayo. I guess I can't complain too much since it's being paid for. My question is is there any where nearby to have a little fun with the ladies? I don't mind renting a car for a day or so but don't really know my way around the country. I do have one friend that lives there but I doubt she would enjoy my scene too much and to be honest is quite a bit up tight. Any suggestions would be great. I hope that on my next trip to CR I will do things right! Thanks for any help guys! |

Allegro is supposed to be a nice all inclusive resort. Tell us how it is. However the Allegro is on the pacific coast far away from San Jose were the epicenter of P4P is. So there are limited options for P4P in that region of CR. Do a search on Liberia and see what comes up. I would personally fly from Liberia to San Jose for a few days of fun in the city. Sansa or Nature Air are the 2 airlines that fly from Liberia. I'm assuming your company is flying you into Liberia versus San Jose. Pura Vida |

adb1976: If I were you, I would'nt squander several days in paradise b/c someone was picking the tab up on my room. Is there a way you can convince them to cover a hotel for you in SJO (probably a LOT cheaper for them) then take the TicaBus from Liberia to SJO. It is a 4 hr comfortable, and cheap, ride. Even if they refused to cover a room in SJO, I'd still go...Liberia area is beautiful but BORING! Cheers, CH |

Since it is a company, make it look good. Spend one extra day there then ask if they mind if you move around a bit to see the country (bcs you would like to experience CR) and they can pick up your hotel tab. If that is the case, then you can pick a hotel in SJ, not the Del Rey, that is chica and corporate tab friendly. Take pictures for the office crew and take a tour (more pictures). Then take pictures for us. ![]() Dean |

The only hard advice I can offer is--DO NOT rent a car in CR. Unless you are experienced in driving in, say, Afghanistan, it can ruin your vacation quickly. The airlines mentioned are a reasonable option but Costs Rica has excellent private bus service everywhere and not on some "chicken bus" either. It'll take longer that way natch but you'll see some great scenery up close and personal. The Brothers were correct about P4P; for a novice it doesn't exist outside San Jose and Jaco. This is your first time in CR (recon mission) so go with the flow; later on in life (like, for example a month after you get back to what we charmingly call Gringaland), come on down and get the best of the rest. Frankly, I'd take advantage of the ups and extras the resort has to offer with maybe 2 days in SJ. BTW, congrats on having such a great job that sends you here AND lets you take personal time incountry--we should all be so lucky/ skilled. www.flysansa.com www.natureair.com Their planes meet/ exceed FAA standards www.costa-rica-guide.com/travel/index.p ... Itemid=684 Soft Pitch: If you decide to come to SJ for some days, seriously consider joining us as a paid member--The nominal cost ($39/yr; $99/Lifetime) will easily recouped in the discounts on hotels, restaurants, fishing trips, even dental services plus access to members-only Forums--it's not a cost, it's an investment. |

Actually, not to be a pain in the ass, but I paid $139 for a lifetime membership a few months ago. Still well worth it, in my opinion |
