Ok guys had a great first trip down. I'd like to go down more often, but will need to have a phone down there to stay connected and complete sales. So I've got a question that internet searches haven't answered. If I have VOIP service on my laptop and I book a room with wifi... will I be able to accept calls in my hotel room in Costa Rica from the United States (of course using my US number)? Probably a hard question, but I hope somebody out there has the answer. |

Personally, I've used both my company's Avaya VoiP client and Skype to make and receive phone calls while at the hotel (SL). I've also used my Blackberry to make UMA over WIFI calls (at no cost ![]() Quality is spotty, though. It's hit or miss whether you get a solid connection or not (at least at the place I stayed). |

Do a search on Magicjack, that is the tool I use. I have work from CR at La Amistad making phone calls and receiving calls the whole week. Also, having multiple laptops connected to work without any issues. |

Magicjack, Vonage, etc. work in CR anyplace there is broadband Internet service. Most gringo residents have one of them. |

MagicJack from what I've read here is the consensus choice and they're available everywhere in the US (RiteAid drugstores, 7-11 convenience stores, etc--they must have a heckuva marketing department), but still do a "Search" here for the best options, any downsides, that sort of thing. |

Magicjack works great as long as you have a high speed internet connection. We even use it for credit card machines and alarm systems |
