Post subject:  Beware of Hotel La Amistad

Anyone who has a future reservations at the Hotel Amistad please beware.
It would be fare to state the Hoel La Amistad has major problems with there reservations department.

I just read that a CRT member was checking in and they only had one
room available. He had a confirmation email in hand and hotel admitted
they screwed up. The hotel was a 100% booked so he and his brother
had to double up.

The hotel did'nt offer any type of compensation for there mistake.

After reading several postings the Hotel La Amisted was a great place so I booked four nights through Orbits Travel Service online.
I recieved a confirmation code via email that stated my room was confirmed.

I then emailed the hotel thru their web site to give them heads up
that I was coming and that I was a CRT/VIP member and looking forward
to my stay.

I recieved an email back stating there was a problem with my confirmed
reservation and that no suites were available for the days that I booked.

So make a long story real short and after several conversations with Phil
their reservations consultant I book my four nights at the SL.

I own my own travel agency and what happened was they have to pay a
10% commission to Orbitz + a fee and when they found out I was a CRT/VIP member that ment a 25% reduction in there room rate. These
days I am sure they can't handle a 25% discount.

With all said in done and after reading several postings SL is going to
be the better place.

This posting is for information reasons only and to state buyer beware!!!!!!!

That doesnt make any sense.....If you book through orbitz or whom ever then you would not get a discount on top of a discounted online rate that is prepaid or preset in rate ahead of time. That's just common sense that the discount would not apply. Although they should of just given you your extra 10% discount and tell you that you cant do it in the future.

The hotel has to pay Orbitz a 10% commission + a resv fee. This was not a discount to me.

Orbitz is a very large online travel service owned by
the five major airlines and the hotel is a member of that sevice.

Being a travel agent I am very aware of problems booking direct with hotels.

As you can see the other member booked thru the hotel and he
didn't recieve any compensation for there scew up as he stated.

Since the hotel could not honor my reservation thru Orbitz I recieved
a $150.00 certifcate to be used in the future from Orbitz.

One Arm, you are mistaken. The gentleman who discovered that LA had screwed up the reservation was well compensated; the brother (one of the two guests) got the original reserved room, and Almond was upgraded (seriously upgraded) to one of the penthouse suites...at no additional cost.

I have stayed at La Amistad twice over the past three years, and I am no expert. Still, I'll tell you that owner Matt and everyone in his front office have treated me very well.

Please re-read Almond's post.

Re: Orbits. Why? The Amistad has a toll-free line, and you could have booked directly with the hotel without hassle or problems, and would have received the discount.

It would be “fair” to say that your assessment of the post you were referring to in regards to another issue at La Amistad is factually wrong. You were quick to post your disappointment with the hotel but your interpretation of what you thought you read was off the charts. Lol WTF? La Amistad actually upgraded that gentleman to a better room with no additional costs. So with all your misinformation about another post, I give no credence to this one.

Sorry, I stand corrected my mistake you are correct!! There was upgrade to a suite, but the question is if there wasn't a canx what then? I am sure the La Amistad is a great hotel but from the surface it would appear they need to improve there reservations department.

the LA staff are human and their reservation system is not perfect. but if you have issues matt is always ready to stand up and make them right. not once have i seen him shrug off a complaint.
the guy stands in the middle of the storm, imperial in hand, on a daily basis. so to just lambaste his hotel and staff on the board is a joke to all of us that know his establishment.

I have book to LA Amistad for the last two years and never have I had a problem. Just booked my November trip and the same, MY choice of penthouses and immediate answers from the staff. If there is a question, there is always the toll-FREE number that you can call. Sorry but just about everyone that have stay at La Amistad, is calling BS on this one.

Maybe they need to get the “Kinks” worked out.

Whoa, someone really has an ax to grind.

This guy thought that the fact that he's a travel agent would give him some credibility, but it looks like it has backfired on him. Makes him look foolish.

First off before throwing around accusations regarding other members and their experiences you certainly should have your facts straight.

It appears obvious anyone must book direct with them and a booking on Orbitz or any travel site would not expect to receive a discount from CRT as well.

My opinion is as a "TRAVEL AGENT" you were trying to double dip by booking the room on a travel site using your travel agent code to get a commission for booking it then calling the hotel to get your CRT Discount. I am not 100% certain of how travel agencies and what you would be paid for booking such a room, but that is how I see it.

I would think an apology would be in order and your original comments deleted... Matt and his staff have always handled any problems any of us have had.
