How much does it cost (in Colones) to get from the airport to SL and how long does the trip take (at about 7:30pm)? Thanks, Butt Pirate |

Depending on what type of transportation you use, your cost(s) will be different. But on average, a taxi will run you about 12 or 13,000 colones +/- and should take about 25-30 minutes from airport to SL. |

Downstairs taxi are back using the flat rate. paying at the window/counter instead of using the meter. To SL from airport should be $19 USD. |

I concur on this one. $21 to La Amistad. |

Post subject: | Flat Rate Taxi and WHY |
They are back to using the flat rate taxi pricing because the winter break (yes, officially it is winter time in Costa Rica) is over for schools. Even the one week extension because of influenza. With school back in session traffic is significantly worse in downtown. Additionally there is a traffic limit to cars in the downtown area. If your license plate ends in a 1 or 2 you cannot enter the area between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm on Monday. Ending in a 3 or 4 on Tuesday, all the way to 9 or 0 on Friday. Because of these two factors traffic is greatly influenced in downtown San Jose and it is actually in your best interest to take the flat rate taxi. That being said you CAN get lucky with an upstairs taxi and save a couple of bucks, but if your are that worried about saving less than $5 you are going to look for a way to do it anyway. |
