Does a taxi need to wait while someone is in one of the massage parlors, or does a doorman get a taxi for you when you leave? I walked to the massage parlor on my last trip. I want to know what happens when taking a cab. |

I personally just walked to a busy corner and just waited for a taxi. This was in broad daylight, of course. |

I walked to the massage parlor on my last trip. I want to know what happens when taking a cab. Taxis are ubiquitous in San Jose. There is no reason to pay one to wait an hour while you are in an MP. |

I call "SAT word" on Brother ID. But then he can return the favor on my "explicate"--fair is fair. |

I haven't been to CR for a few years but am returning in August ... Do you still go to the small building at the airport and pay for your taxi ride to town there? |

No, there is no more flat taxi charge, it's now up to the meter. You pay the taxista when you get to your destination. It's about $20 from airport to downtown. |

The taxi driver on the way to San Jose cut the meter off at $22.00 for me, because I asked what it was going to cost up front. On the way back to the airport late at night, the red taxi did not turn on the meter and drove 100 miles per hour, or so it seemed. I did not feel comfortable telling him to turn on the meter, and he charged $20.00 which I am sure was a better deal for him. |

Ok, since I'm in the newbie section, here's another stupid taxi question that I haven't been able to figure out by readying the forum ... I have always stayed at Del Rey but am considering the SL ... I know I can always get a taxi at DR ... what is the taxi situation like at SL? are they lined up 24/7 like they are at DR? If I can't get a taxi when I want it at SL I will probably stay at DR ... If I can, SL is much more appealing ... Thanks ... |

There, typically, are ALWAYS cabs waiting outside the SL. Many of these cabs appear to be the standard "legit", but most do not use the meter; work out the cost of the cab fare before you get in the cab. Also, the SL front desk will be happy to phone a cab for you should you so desire. |

It is very common for cab drivers who wait outside hotels to tell you that because they do that they do not have to use the meter. That is total BS. They are required to follow the same regulations as every other cab. If a taxista refuses to use the meter or claims it is not working take another cab. |

Most of the drivers outside SL don't have meters. They are regular old econo-junkers not associated with any company. You pay a little extra for them because they are there waiting for you rather than you waiting for a cab. Among them are Chupa, Jimmy, Christian, Julio, etc. Prices are very reasonable. A cab ride from SL to my casa is around $1500c-$1700c. The gypos charge $2000. From SL to the HDR on the meter is around $600c-$700c. The gypos will do it for $1000. I have used them for years and they may look a little rough around the edges but I have never had any problem with them at all. They know that there working the SL is dependent on good service and no complaints from the clients. They will also do delivery service to/from the local pharmacy or grocery or soda. Kinda nice if you need an aspirin or an imodium or a half-rack and don't want to run around yourself. |

I agree the taxi at the SL are a good bunch I for one do not care about the meter around town but I know what the fare should be Have it ready and hand it to the driver after getting out of the cab The taxi bebate goes on Don't you love it when you tell them where you are going, the say yes I know the place... Then at the next intersection they go the wrong way ![]() |

on my last trip ....as I was waving down a taxi in front of the castillo hotel a taxi pulls up and a smokin hottie gets out...she says "you need a taxi" I say yes ....and say are you coming as well...she says no baby I am going to work....must remember to look for her on next trip...anyway I tell the driver 'airport" he makes a hand movement of telling me 20 ..I say no papi use the meter !!! he makes some comments about me being cheap...anyway he takes the long way to the airport and I tell him I know its the long way...the meter shows 7000 maybe a little more but under 8000 .....i still give him 10,000 and its like I gave him a 50 dollar tip....I mostly wanted to see what was the cost to the airport (from the area of the delrey)also you can really work the same deal when coming in...you might need to walk to the parking area ...but I now at least leave 10,000 in my passport bag so I can have it for the ride in.... |
