Hey everyone,

This is my first post and I have read through more than 30 pages of NEWBIE thread.

I am going to CR in June for my bachelors party. Although I told me fiance that this wont be my last and that this is probably an annual trip for me to blow off some steam by myself. She is aware of what happens in CR.

I had talked to couple of my coworkers that have gone to CR to surf and not monger. They reco'd not to go to SJ at first and I understood because they are pretty much conservative. They have been to JACO and described it to me and I did some research on JACO and the beatle bar and decided it was great for me. It is going to myself and 3 other freinds making the trip with everyone knowing that one of the attractions are going to be P4P. We also plan on doing all of the tours during the day.

I have already booked my flight and rented a condo at JACO. We are staying 8 nights. We are going to rent a car from the airport and drive to JACO. I was wondering would it be worth it to drive back to SJ during the week to monger and check out the scene a little? Should I come back a night early before my departure and stay in SJ or should I stay during the day at SJ and visit some MP before driving to JACO?

I have been to the "clubs" in Bogota Colombia before and pretty familiar with that scene. I know it might be a little different in CR. Oh by the way going rate for CBJ and 1hr is about 40,000 peso which was about 20 dollar US. I know its going to be more like a cien and am fine with that, I know to negotiate.

So what do you guys think drive back during the week or just stay a night?

Welcome to CRT.

The SJ scene is better than the Jaco scene by far. I'd suggest coming back a day early and spending the last 24 hours in SJ before going home. But you may end up regretting not spending more time in SJ. On the flip side, if you spend the first 24 hrs in SJ, you may have such a good time that you may just blow off Jaco altogether. So it's a tough call.

Driving back and forth will get old really fast. It's 2-2.5 hours each way depending on traffic, weather, farm animals, potholes, etc.

How pale is your skin? You may want to bring a good sunblock to Jaco and be prepared to shower at least 5 times daily there. It's a bit on the warm side there.

stay in SJ AT LEAST 1 day before considering going to Jaco...

Jaco is a hole.

Aside from the beach there's nothing there.

Beatle bar is only good if you dont know what can be had elsewhere.

I prefer finding talent in SJ and bringing it to Jaco than depending on what is in Jaco.

Really, SJO is SUBSTANTIALLY better... in almost every way...

Beaches are better in Tamarindo, Manuel Antonio, Zancudo, etc... Again, Jaco is a hole!

Wow. Sounds like you have it all figured out and really don't need our advice.

Have fun in Jaco and bring plenty of sunscreen and reading material!

Jaco is a hole but the tallent in the BB is excellent at times, lots of young dominicans and nicas. There are some fuglys but plenty of top shelf to choose from. You can set up some daytime fun the night before if you need afternoon lovin. If you are doing all the tour stuff you should have a great time in Jaco. I would recommend a 24hr stay in SJ just to see the look on your freinds face in the Del Rey.

I hate to point out the obvious, but since nobody else has commented.....

LuckyBob - YOU'RE GETTING MARRIED ?!!?!?!?!?!?!??!?

Have a great time in Jaco. And if you forget to bring a good book, you might want to pick up a couple (dozen) magazines at the airport before you head to Jaco!

Bienvenidos,
MG

Thanks for all the reply everyone. I know I messed up but, I just found this site not too long ago! I got most of my prior info from tripadvisor.com which meant not alot and also coworkers! I dont mind the heat and once again I plan on going white water rafting, atv tour, zip line tour, surf lessons, maybe rent some dirt bikes and others at JACO.

We dont plan on mongering the whole trip! Plus I think everyone missed my first post! I am getting married but remember this is not my last trip even though my girl knows what I am going to do in CR!

My plan right now is just to drive during the week back to SJ during the day and if everything goes right then we might just stay a night. We are renting a car anyways so it should not be a big deal. How much do you think rooms will be for one night without booking? If I take a chica back to JACO how much would it be to just send her back in a taxi?

We were in Jaco for four nights last September. It was good at night but nothing during the day. Stayed one day in SJ and just three hours at DR was better then four nights in Jaco. We stopped at SJHDR before we went to Jaco, and five days later when i was flying back to US, i told my self that i was coming back to SJ.
I will be back in SJ on 27th of this month. Coming solo this time and like to meet few CRT brothers.
Staying at HLA, will meet chicas at SL. Any CRT brother going to be there to have few beers?
Any golfers? Would love to play Cariari, can someone get me in? I know i'm asking for lot but never now, right.......

Stay in SJO for one night at the start, then go to Jaco. That way you can compare for yourself and it is more time efficient. I like both. I do both, but like the others have said, there is only one place in Jaco. There are at least 10 good places in SJO. You need to see and experience the HDR before you spend any amount of time in Jaco. Until you have SJO under your belt you will never know.
Bring a chica to the beach if you like (but why?), but don't send her back by cab. It will set you back $100. Send her back by bus. It is the way they are used to traveling and it will only cost $8. Also, the chicas like to go to the beach so don't pay over $100 per day for her to come with you. The guys are really right that there is not all that much to do in Jaco, so missing a day on the front end to see the SJO scene won't cut you out of anything since you have a week to work with. I bet you'll end up back in San Jose the last two nites.

That's $3 for the bus and a $5 tip for the chica?

Congratulations on your upcoming marriage.

Do you have GPS? It may take you a lot longer to get to Jaco than it should. There are basically few, to zero, road signs anywhere in CR. It's a jungle out there, especially on the road, with the "largest" rule of the road. The largest vehicle has the right-of-way. That can even mean on blind curves you may see a truck coming from the opposite direction in your lane, which is the only lane by the way. Always leave yourself an out, and remember there are some huge ditches beside the roads. IMO driving in CR from SJ to Jaco is more of a "big deal" than you think.

When you stop, leave nothing visible in the car. Be sure to have them note even the most minor scratch anywhere on the car. Look at the underside of the car also. Make sure they note everything that does not look showroom condition on your contract.

As for driving back for the night, I think that after you have made the initial drive there it probably won't seem as much like a viable option. When one says it is only a 2-2.5 hour drive I think no sweat. I do that all the time to go to TJ, on excellent freeway roads. These roads are nothing like that. If you are going to go back to SJ for the day, and then return that night, you may want to look at flying. It would be worth it to fly in to SJ in the morning, and return by air the next day though.

Health & happiness to you.......
