Post subject:  where would you stay?

For my first trip to San Jose, should I stay at the Sudamer Apartments or opt out for a hotel? Is the Sudamer a short walk to the Gulch? Any negatives for the Sudamer? I like the weekly price for the Sudamer, but if it's a week of regret, the price isn't worth it.

Thanks.

How long is your trip?

Unless it is something approaching a month I would recommend staying in a hotel. Unless you have special needs that would require you to stay in an apartment I would opt for the social opportunities that a hotel offers. Especially for your first trip. It will be good for you to meet other CRT members and this is best accomplished by staying in a hotel in the gulch.

Sudamer is a bit more than a short walk to the gulch. The trip would definately require a taxi a night. It is often recommended that newbies spend their first trip at HDR. If that doesn't fit your budget check the rates (with CRT VIP discount!) at some of the sponsor hotels.

The Sudamer has some good things going for it. The owner, Carlos Eduardo is a stand-up guy who is very responsive to renter needs. He tolerates our hobby but in all seriousness, doesn't really approve of it.

As Western noted, the Sudamer is a long stroll to the Gulch. It's seven blocks due south from the Hotel Presidente; eight blocks south and one block west of the Hotel Del Rey.

One advantage is its proximity to Pantera Rosa, although as noted, not a good idea to stroll the neighborhood alone at night.

If you're a fairly experienced monger and this is your first trip to C.R., the del Rey could be heaven on earth for you. OTOH if you need a more tranquil hotel, check out the Hotel la Amistad. If you want girls on premises there are the Sportsmen's, Hotel Little Havana and the del Rey (and maybe the Morazan?) to choose from.

It all depends on your budget, level of mongering experience and how far away your trip dates are. Booking into the del Rey or SL may require some advance notice, as rooms can be hard to get in both hotels.

Welcome Edgar! :D Read the forum more thoroughly, and you'll find lots of hotel reviews and comments.
