How's it going my brothers? The information you guys have provided is excellent and I am very grateful. I just returned from my first CR, with the family in tow. I can't even begin to tell you what a great time we had. After seeing the country, the hot ticas and speaking with some Expats I knew I'd be returning...ALONE. Since I returned on 1/10 I joined CRT and have been reading and researching my solo trip. Since I don't speak spanish I've decided to pick up the Rosetta Stone program and hope it will help. There are just so many questions that I find it hard to know where to start.

I have so much time to plan and I want to make sure I do it right. I want to go back in June 2009, which I believe will be a slower time for CR. Are there any advantages to traveling in the "off season" with regards to supply and demand or do the ticas take a break during the slow times? I've considered hotels in and around the gulch as places to stay but also considered places like the Presidente.

I have questions about the caliber of talent at which places. I have some game and I'm not completely gross (lol) so I'm, at least at the moment, leaning away from the MP options. Of course the best game plan is a game plan that can change as need be. I'm not overly concerned about costs but I don't want to be seen as a mark and don't intend to "over spend" on a hotel or talent. Over paying, for either, would just in the long run ruin it for everyone. I wonder also if I stay in a nice place or in a suite will the talent want more $$? Or perhaps if you are in a nice place can you pull better talent?

I'd like to hear some advice and reasoning from some of the seasoned mongering pros as to the best place to stay. I expect my trip to be 3 or 4 days. My tastes is generally more toward the more luxurious end when it comes to food, lodging and women. Hopefully, by the time June rolls around I'll have a wingman but if not your advice on traveling solo would be much appreciated. I'm not so much concerned about safety issues because I know you have to be smart no matter where you are traveling but more on advantages and/or disadvantages of "working" the bars alone. I think the perception, at least here in the US, many times is if you are alone in a bar you don't have too much going on. I wonder if that same perception holds true or not in CR.

Any comments, advice or suggestions you guys have would be much appreciated.

KenLee,

Welcome to the board. You've posted several questions / concerns about your upcoming trip. We could write a novel to answer all your questions, but that won't be necessary. Everything you need to know is already on this board.

You've got plenty of time to read and do your homework. Don't be in a hurry to make concrete plans right now. June is considered part of the "green" season or "off-peak" season. You shouldn't have a problem with hotels booking up yet. Plus, the airfares go up and down almost daily, so don't be in a big rush to book your flight until you find one for the right price.

And as far as making plans ? Fuhgeddaboudit !!! All your "pre-trip" plans will go right out the phucking window as soon as your ass hits the ground in CR. Just go with the flow. When it gets a little closer to June, post your trip dates in the Roll Call section, and there's about a 99% chance that there'll be other members in town at the same time. Stop in to the SL in the afternoon, and you should have no problem hooking up with another CRT wingman.

Just remember... EVERYTHING YOU SHOULD KNOW HAS ALREADY BEEN WRITTEN HERE. Take your time and read through the numerous sections of this forum. You'll be amazed at the depth of knowledge of many CRT members, along with the tremendous amount of info that can be obtained, just by reading.

You'll do just fine. Again... welcome to the board!

MG

Where did you correlate going to an MP with being ugly and/or a loser.

What I do is :

1) Book a flight
2) Book a hotel
3) Pack-up my bags
4) Say adios to the US for a while and hello Costa Rica!

Much more than that is over planning. Read and study all of the Newbie tips. Orange and the others have provided a wealth of information that is all that you need to know.

Other than that, get yer butt down there and have guranteed good time!

:D :D :D

Welcome to the board. Hopefully by now you found the following thread, read, memorize and then comeback with more questions but most will be answer here; https://costaricaticas.com/phpBB2/vi ... hp?t=16357

To answer some of your questions;
1 – Stay away from “Semana Santa” aka Easter. It is a Catholic thing. And the last two weeks of the year. Every other time is just casting a net to the proverbial barrel.
2 – Hotels to stay, SL or Amistad. They both got excellent penthouses and new rooms for those that like their comforts.
3- I’m a lone wolf myself. I actually like to explore and hunt alone. Some people like the group atmosphere. The only way that you won’t have ‘much going on” is if you actually run out of money. You won’t even be able to catch a cold. No money no lovie.

Take this as advice. Don't exclude the MPs because of that reason. Use your "game" to get a better session inside the MPs. 8)

Pop into a few of the MPs and see if you like something. This is part of the go with the flow part that MG mentioned.

Hey I fully understand that you have limited time and limited leches so why waste time sorting through the MP fatties, uglies and stretch marks. Go with the independents and party in the nice room you paid big bucks for. Never make any excuses for avoiding the MPs. Leave them for the guys who like quantity over quality.

Stay at SL, La Amistad if you can't get a room in the New or Mansion sections. Book as far in advance as possible or ask when the room/s you want are available and book around that time period.

Wiggle at least a week. Three or four days is just enough to get the taste in your mouth.

Consort with the expats who live here when you get close to your departure date for up-to-the-minute data but don't fall in love with a plan. Stay flexible and try to avoid preconceived expectations. It will be what it will be. Go with that!

Appreciate your answer's guys.

MG, Thanks man. (LOL) Since I can't go tomorrow... making plans is the next best thing....... well kinda of.. sorta of ....... Naaaa it ain't nearly as good! LOL I hear you though. Go with the flow. I just can't wait. I have poured through so many posts and will continue to do so. I appreciate your many post. Your posts are some of the most valuable I've read.

Orange. LOL Sorry man, didn't mean to offend you. Point taken. To answer your questions I read a thread that talked about that very subject. Of course after spending the last couple of hours looking now I can't find it. Perhaps you can't trust everything you read here, huh? I've read many of you posts too and Thanks. I'm sure you guys get tired of us "newbies" asking the same tired questions and making stupid comments. For the record I might at least check out an MP. Who knows maybe 2 or 10 of them even. LOL Who knows.

JO. I'm good Easter is in April this year. Seems like it will be SL or Amistad for me then. Seems I've been seeing Amistad popping up alot, I'll check them out. I took a look at SL too, already. Seemed to be prett nice. (Makes note to self... Bring CASH!) LOL

Tstef. I'll keep that in mind. You never know what you'll find if you don't at least look.

Lastly.

Pac. Thank you sir. Really good info. I've read many of your post you're a wealth of information. I'll check with SL tto see what they have. Seems no one has anything negative to say about SL.

Brother KenLee--Being as you won't be wasting your daytime hours with the gorditas at the MP's (appreciate that--leave them for me), look into Brother Prolijo's list of daytrips ("search" function--2nd line). As you already have Rosetta Stone, I won't mention Pimsleur.
None of the above smart-mouth comments were directed at you. Please remember though that the perfect is the mortal enemy of the good.
