I'm about to pull the trigger on a trip in May. Is this an ok time to go? Was going to hit HDR. This will be my third trip to CR. First time in Tamarindo was pretty good. My second time was in Jaco then to HDR for only one night. Jaco was pretty fantastic, but the HDR was AMAZING! Needless to say I was a little dissappointed that I only spent one day and night at the HDR. I have to tell you guys...CR is an addictive lifestyle. So, if you could tell me if there are any problems with May I would appreciate it. Thanks! |

May is as good as time as any. Now I don't know about staying at the HDR, that would be one of my last hotel choices. Cujo |

Cujo, Can I ask you why HDR would be one of your last choices? Easy, convenient, and a virtual buffet is downstairs. I read about everyone's choices and I certainly respect your input. What would be your top 3 choices with the best up top. The only question I would ask after is, would that hotel have the selection HDR has (in terms of numbers, all shapes and sizes)? Please keep in mind I'm totally aware of different strokes for different folks. In other words, some people like a little bit more of a tranquilo atmosphere and others want a crazy atmosphere. I'm all about convenience. Go downstairs, watch some sports, grab a drink. Maybe talk to a fellow monger and make friends, all the while females are swimming around you. Maybe it's because I'm a novice, but I really liked the HDR atmosphere. However, I ask, educate me. I don't mind being a student. BB |

Cujo I can guess what Cujo will say in his PM but for others that are trying to make this decision it is this simple.: 1. SL has nicer rooms , especially in the new Mansion wing. 2. Price is pretty similar while SL might have a bit of an edge. 3. SL is more convenient with a more laid back atmosphere, more fellow mongers to hang with, and has the better talent at this time. However, for the stunners you need to go to HDR. My two cents and YMMV. Mark52 |

My impression was that though the Del Rey was very convenient the negatives were the noisy crummy rooms and the chica fees that were charged all the time. Is that right ? ![]() |

I also prefer the SL over the HDR. Better staff, better rooms, a lot better food, more of a comradery among guests(BMs). I won’t say no joiners fee due to the fact that you will most likely need to hire a cab at the SL so that makes it a wash IMO. It is also nice being a few blocks from ZB. I have stayed at the DR 3 times. Although the DR is great fun I just prefer the service at the SL. |

I am a converted SL guy. I stayed at HDR my first two trips, but gave the SL a shot, and have never looked back. Better service, they know your name, very cool people there, more laid back. And the DR is only a 5 minute walk down the hill. After my 2nd trip at the DR, me and my buddy combined over 3 days ran up a $220 chica fee tab, so that kinda killed it for us. Viva no chica fee at SL! |

General consensus is that it will make the clock watcher even more likely to rush through- her office is rigt down stairs! |
