I'm staying at the HDR and was wondering if I can buy a cheap cell phone somewhere? $? |

If by cheap, you mean $200, then yes. If by cheap you mean $30, no. Cell phones are hard to get in this country, and you can't get one if you're not a resident or citizen, though there are ways around it (such as a corporation) but it takes months to get a line once you order it. You can rent them, though.. |

The German is right. Easier to pickup an unlocked cell phone in the US and bring it down and rent a SIM. Lots of companies offer SIM and cell phone rental and if you are a frequent traveler it is better to buy a phone and rent the SIM. |

OK......thanks for the info. I will check out my options. In PI you can get phone & card for under $50. |

Different laws in CR. If you are a non-resident you can't get a SIM. Also, cell phones are manufactured in Asia so they are stupid cheap there. Enjoy your trip. |

You can in Guatemala and Mexico too... it's all about competition... In CR there is none... |
