I am looking to take 5 weeks off, do an intensive course, finally get my Spanish up to speed.

What are the schools that you all know of in SJ?

I know of:
http://www.spanishabroad.com/costarica/ ... prices.htm
$1,200 for 4 weeks of 4 daily group lessons, homestay and 2 meals.

http://ipee.com/courses/fees-and-schedules/
$1,285 for 4 weeks of 4 daily group lessons, homestay and 2 meals.

Others? Any that get below $1,000 for 4/4 homestay and 2 meals?

Thx

CRLA comes highly recommended and is convenient to el Centro but is certainly not the cheapest if that's your main concern. http://www.spanishandmore.com/

Check this thread for Prolijo's post- dated but mentions other schools and current prices are on their websites. https://costaricaticas.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=6093

That whole thread Brother PacoLoco brought back [ with Brother Prolijo's link] has value. I recommend reading it end-to-end especially Rolex's remarks. Thanks PL.

Umm, I don't think that I would recommend doing homestay unless you are only planning to visit MPs! You won't have much privacy living with a Tico family and your mama Tica may not appreciate your extra curricular activities!

Homestay IS a good method to achieve "cultural immersion" but you might consider staying in a "friendly" hotel where other aspects of the culture can be explored!

On mongers and "homestay"--God help you if you ogle THEIR chicas, out of habit. Unless you want to get Lorena Bobbetized. Stay at Hotel Marruecos instead (the subject was CHEAP, right?)

I have a co-worker who uses Rosetta Stone software. She likes it. If you have a Borders' club card and get e-mail from them, sometime you can get a coupon for 20-30% off any purchase.

I once met a women who works for the organization.

Not smackin' here Brother Mrmody but a search will show homestudy courses have been pretty thoroughly covered here, The consensus as I understand it is--yes, Rosetta Stone is good but Pimsleur is equally good--both are avalable sub rosa free on the Web.

By the way, if someone needs an independent rating of in-country schools try: www.123teachme.com There's also ratings for the DR (Sosua) and Colombia (Cartagena, Cali, Medellin) for those that want to combine pleasure with learning. They also offer on-line Spanish language schooling.
