Are you serious? See, that would straight up get me in trouble. I can avoid conflict, but if a tico takes a swing at me I guess I'd just end up in jail.
No answer to your question although I take taxis from out in front often. I speak fluent spanish though and I tell them to not treat me like a mutt. The older guy out front who seems to orchestrate the other drivers always gives me a wink and treats me good. But I know behind that wink he has scammed plenty of gringo tourist.
Seems a lot of my advice on this board is to learn spanish. But here we are in a situation where if you speak fluently then chances of having a fast one pulled on you are almost zero..
