Trying to figure out if it is best to get the hotel reservation in SJ (looking at the Sportsman or Presidents) and in the middle of the trip plug in a couple of nights in Jaco for fishing? I plan on being in CR for 6/7 days and I want to get some fishing in while there. Most everything I have read here says you should come to SJ first and then see how things go from there. If I do not have hotel reservations in Jaco how difficult are they to get while I am down there? So, bottom line should I malke a weeks worth of hotel accomodations in SJ and wait for Jaco or split everything up and get confirmed reservations for both areas? |

It depends when you are going. During the high season, it is more difficult to get a room in Jaco with short notice. But once the high season ends (late April), you can get a room by walking in most places as vacancy drops a lot during the rainy season. If you are sure that you'll want to go fishing (no matter how good SJ is), then book a room. Make sure you read their cancellation policies. Many hotels have 50-100% cancellation penalty, depending on when you cancel. If you get to SJ and change your mind about fishing, you may have to eat that room charge. |
