Post subject:  SJ and Jaco Fishing

Trying to figure out if it is best to get the hotel reservation in SJ (looking at the Sportsman or Presidents) and in the middle of the trip plug in a couple of nights in Jaco for fishing? I plan on being in CR for 6/7 days and I want to get some fishing in while there. Most everything I have read here says you should come to SJ first and then see how things go from there. If I do not have hotel reservations in Jaco how difficult are they to get while I am down there?

So, bottom line should I malke a weeks worth of hotel accomodations in SJ and wait for Jaco or split everything up and get confirmed reservations for both areas?

It depends when you are going.

During the high season, it is more difficult to get a room in Jaco with short notice. But once the high season ends (late April), you can get a room by walking in most places as vacancy drops a lot during the rainy season.

If you are sure that you'll want to go fishing (no matter how good SJ is), then book a room. Make sure you read their cancellation policies. Many hotels have 50-100% cancellation penalty, depending on when you cancel. If you get to SJ and change your mind about fishing, you may have to eat that room charge.
