Try the Hotel Europa, Calle Central, Avenida 3/5. www.hoteleuropacr.com. Word of caution it has been reported that the pool is in the shadow of a building and is somewhat on the chilly side. Good if you want a hard nipple chica

My first trip I stayed in the Hotel Villa Tournon, which is north of the zoo, east of the La Republica newspaper facility, and just west of the El Pueblo nightclub area.

There was a small but nice pool on the south side of the building.

I don't know their formal chica policy but my very first night in CR I brought a chica back there but I was so drunk I don't remember if I checked her in or not.

My total bill for five nights, including a few meals was about $390. They quoted something like $70/room/night. I didn't see a chica fee on my bill when I checked out.

Not sure if I'm qualified to comment or not. I stayed there on my second trip which was in 1999. I don't remember any pool. Of course that was a looong time ago. At that time, they were chica tolerant and there was no chica fee. Of course that could have changed and I have heard that it HAS changed. It is really more of a business hotel. As for distance to HDR...man, no question you will need a taxi. Not sure exactly but it would be quite a hike. However, if you want to go to El Pueblo, piece of cake. Less than 5 minute walk.

Now, to a hotel that might be a bit more relevant for me to comment on. The Irazu. Has a pool and is (of last info I have received) chica friendly. Nice little casino and a short cab ride in to the gulch.

The Villa Tournon does have a pool and hot tub but they are not chica friendly.

If by the Irazu you are referring to the Best Western Irazu they are no longer chica friendly. They have large signs at each entrance stating that they do not tolerate prostitution. They were written up in AM Costa Rica sometime ago announcing their no prostitute policy.

Actually the policy of banning them from the rooms started around August or September of 2007. The signs that have been in place for a couple of years were referring to the lounge and bar. At that time you could bring a chica back to your room.

There is a Denny's in CR? Where? The sign would make a good souvenir.
