Costa Rica uses colones. the exchange rate is APROXIMATELY 500 colones to $1. When you hear guys talking about paying cien, cien is spanish for 100. They mean $100 American (or 50,000 colones).

If Zona blue is about $42 per session with crt discount card (it may have gone up) that is about 21K col in costa rican money.

People on this board tend to use USD, for their $$$ talks. Occasionally colones are mentioned, but if you ask me, any currency that is denominated in the 1000's for a loaf of bread is too hard to use in general...

Having said that, the CR colon is gaining on the USD daily, and it won't be too long before people start investing in Colones instead of USD, because of the USD's instability...
