Ok, I give up: How much time do I spend with a lady in the Blue Marlin before we get down to discussing dinero? Do I let her sit at the bar for quite some time, buying drinks freely, and then wait? I'm pretty new to the Costa Rica scene compared to Amsterdam and it seems that part of the "fun and play" in the Blue Marlin is to chit chat while the ladies are thinking you are going to do the "cien" non-sense. I like talking with the women and wonder what's the best tactic to "close the deal" later on and at the price I like and not the "cien". How much time can I expect to spend at that bar? I prefer to not waste my money on the clip joint prices of the Blue Marlin.....because when I am in a bar I do tend to drink and the prices in that place are absurd. Help! Thanks, men! steven1 |

so far not so good. Looking for solid data as to the "scene". I was there in November.....my first time.....and it's just....well...different than Amsterdam. I had women speaking to me for 45min and longer and nothing about what was what was being discussed. Frankly, I really don't want to hear about Ch*ldren and husbands and boyfriends....which is what I heard. It's all a hustle....if you don't know that, you're gonna get snookered. So, do I simply sit on a bar stool and hustle back....just letting the ladies touch all over me and ask me if I want company with me being vague and saying it's a too early...."I'm just here to see what's going on....it's pretty early....it's just now 8:15pm....". I'm an old guy and like to turn in before 11....but can hang late as well or better than any 22 year old. However, come 10pm or so...well....you know. Can I pick a lady I like.....sit with her and exchange idle chit chat for a good deal of time....and then get into the "NO CIEN" nonsense? Or, do you vets encourage getting the money discussion out of the way upfront? I ask because I sat around in the Del Rey by the reception desk and was able to speak about $40.....just as I wasn't ready to leave..... It's a brave new world....Costa Rica....for this traveled boy!! |

First, you are sitting in the Engineer's seat and that means you get to drive this train. What are you waiting for? There is no need to buy girls drinks. If you do decide to invest in her drinking habit, Centenario rum and Coke is $1700 colones I believe. A jaggerbomb, on the other hand, is $4000 colones. Offer a rum and coke or a cervesa. Don't let her "impress you" by ordering Grey Goose or Patron, etc. When she asks if you want company is a good time to ask how much. Let her tell you her asking price and let her keep talking or counter-offer, your choice. Remember, never pay upfront and you have the right to refuse service and return her to the bar right up until you penetrate. If it isn't just the way you want it, ride the taxi back to DR with her and give her a tip for her time but no payment for non-sex. In my opinion, you are being way too passive. ![]() |

Thanks for this VERY helpful situation. I realize I am the Captain of the ship. So, it is FINE AND OK to NOT pay before getting "close"? (That's a bit different than the New Fantasy experiences (all two of them) I had. Again, my scene has been Amsterdam and in that place you spell out word for word; act by act; what you want. It's a choreography. If you don't do it, the woman won't even take off her undergarments. I started to figure it was all a two way hustle....so my job was to keep the fine looking lady with me as long as possible whether I really wanted her or not. I appreciate the advice about the high dollar "call brand" stuff. I have no problem with being civil with a beer or affordable booze....but if I'm not buying the good Scotch for me, I sure as heck am not paying for Patron (who invented that stuff? Just for the money as near as I can see....). At issue is the reality I am semi competeing with geezers older than I and who have money to burn. These boys paying the "cien" and buying drinks forever and a day mess it up for the rest of us! Same with the idea of "tipping". What? The price was the price. What is this "tipping" all about? I can see if you and she are repeaters with each other, you can start to get personal and what not.....but right now for me....it's just business: I am purchasing either a raunchy screw or I am purchasing an illusion of a "girlfriend". Let's try to keep the prices under control for each other!!! "Tippers" mucked it up big time in Amsterdam just before the Euro took control. Now that the Euro is in charge, forget it. I'm glad I found this web site and am anxious for my 2nd trip back to San Jose. THe first was in November.....the 2nd is gonna be in Feb. and this time I have much more intel for my sorties!! Please continue to provide negotiating data......just how do we each do it? Pacifica55 wrote: First, you are sitting in the Engineer's seat and that means you get to drive this train. Hah, I found this quote on a review of the Del Rey Hotel on Yahoo. According to him, we shouldn't even negotiate. Quote: I have been like 4 times and will forever come stay at the Del Rey. The food is good, it is a pretty central location, and the ticas are great. I know you got some cheapos trying to negotiate with these girls but for $100 the service is excellent. I travel all over the world on business so I think I speak from experience. The girls at the Del Rey are a bargain for the service they provide. The really hot ones will never negotiate below $100 and you are gonna look like a fool too. I just go from babe to babe to babe for weeks on end sometime. Here some advice. Find a really hot one and take her down to Jaco (the nearest beach town) Take her clubbing, dineing, and surfing. She will love you forever and make your stay a pleasure. I promise. Later.
With people thinking $100 is a good deal, the asking price is very likely to go up. Steven, I say that if you're at all interested in the girl, ask her how much she wants. Otherwise, try to politely disengage if you're interested in finding some company. If you're not initially interested, don't make eye contact. http://travel.yahoo.com/p-reviews-38388 ... aX93fiphQB |

I assume it's a guy who lights his cigarettes with hundred-dollar bills and tips his dog not to pee inside. It seems like a guy - hopefully he's one who stumbles drunkenly into Morazon Park and grabs a few to take with him to Jaco! |

I am one of the old geezers that you think you have to semi compete with. Believe it or not, one of the reasons that I don't like the HDR/BM is cost, and attitude. I believe that you can work through both, but it takes work, and time. Hell, if I wanted to work on a woman I wouldn't fly 5.5 hours, and pay for poosey. I come to CR to chase poosey, and hammer it, not work through an attitude or price structure. I prefer the Tico MP's and clubs where you really get the most bang for your buck, not only from a monetary standpoint, but with a great attitude to boot. I will seldom buy a drink for a rental, other than the bottle of Bailey's I keep in my room. There are many ladies in the Tico places that could work at the HDR/BM if they chose, and command the dreaded cien. Much of the fun for me is going where gringos fear to tread. ![]() ![]() If you really want to learn something, take a stroll with the "old geezer" BangBang57 (sorry BangBang) along Ave. 6 or Paseo Colon. This man not only walks at a forced march, but will out cheap 95% of us, and find better looking women in the process. I appreciated our time together again BangBang. One of the greatest wonders of CR, you don't have to compete with anyone, other than yourself. Go with the attitude of being a legend in your own mind. Care not what others say and do. These are women, not robots. Bring your game, and they will play to your rules. They are women and they want to be led by a man. I hope that your next trip exceeds all your expectations. Not all of us old geezers are messing it up for the rest of you. ![]() ![]() Health & happiness to all... Steve - Santas Bro |

I'm a geezer too.....spendthrift at that. It was the MP's I did hit. First New Fantasy; next Zona Blue (which I only visited....didn't understand what I was supposed to do); and finally the most cost efficient: Muses ($20 for one hour: Find the Radio Shack. As you exit Radio Shack turn right and walk down 2 or 3 blocks; there is Muses. but the talent wasn't exactly what I was expecting. granted, I go at the crack of dawn as that's when I'm "looking" and all systems are go a la natural. so I am back to being at the Del Rey: How long does one typcially "chit chat"? Is it a good idea to let the ladies attempt to manipulate you with the sweet talk and the caressing? I determined the latter was fine.....see how much time they'll spend with you prior to a "business connection" being made. I was tickled when I played the dummy and acted as if I didn't know why there were so many girls there! Even expressed same to a couple of the ladies and they did not at once tell me.....they let me ponder the bounty for a bid of time..... anyway....I'm just learning the ropes of the del Rey and Blue Marlin. I think there is gold waiting just outside these places..... |

Amigo on your first trip to Costa Rica mistakes are going to be made. There is a learning curve that everyone goes through. What you don't want to do is haggle too much with the chicas as this will kill the mood.If the chica doesn't want to come off her price try a different one.Enjoy yourself!(Buena Suerte) |

Personally, I believe if one has no intention to phuck a chica then let them know up front. "Time" IS money and that's what they are there for... business. If all one intends to do is take up some of their time with chit chat and they think there's a possibility of doing some business the word will get out to other chicas that you are a cheap bastard and you won't even be approached.
